Hola querido hiver.

Hace unos meses visité el parque natural de Muel que queda a los pies de su ermita. Nuestro plan de entrar dentro se frustró porque sin saberlo elegimos la peor fecha posible: su fiesta patronal. El lugar estaba lleno de gente con sus mejores galas y nosotros desentonábamos con la estampa por completo, así que tuvimos que dejarlo para una futura ocasión.

Hace un par de días surgió la ocasión perfecta para hacer un poco de turismo y recordamos nuestra visita pendiente a la ermita de la Virgen de la Fuente, esta vez la suerte estuvo de nuestro lado y la pudimos disfrutar sin prisa y con un guía improvisado que nos explicó todo. El pueblo de Muel es famoso por su cerámica. Encontramos azulejos por todas partes y cuidan que esté presente en sus puntos de mayor interés. El templo se edificó en 1770 y se renovó en 1817. Su atractivo reside en que contiene unas pinturas al fresco realizadas por Francisco de Goya, lo que atrae a turistas de todo el mundo.

La ermita se sitúa sobre una presa romana, algo que la hace única. El río cuyas aguas retiene es el Huerva, un afluente del Ebro que ahora se desvía unos metros para salvar la presa y así mantener el templo a salvo de las riadas.

Es un templo de dimensiones reducidas, con una sola nave y del estilo neoclásico, muy sencillo. Al ser un Bien de Interés Cultural está cuidado y se van restaurando las piezas que se deterioran con el paso del tiempo.

El guía improvisado era un señor mayor vecino del pueblo, gracias a él conocimos algunos detalles extras que nos habrían pasado desapercibidos si hubiéramos estado por nuestra cuenta.

Las pinturas de Francisco de Goya son frescos al óleo y representan a los cuatro Padres de la Iglesia: San Gregorio Magno, San Ambrosio, San Agustín y San Jerónimo. El pintor las realizó con prisas, no me puedo imaginar el resultado que hubiera obtenido si les hubiera dedicado más tiempo. Se aprecian perfectamente como obras suyas, los trazos, expresiones y colores del genio aragonés son inconfundibles.

La imagen de la Virgen es pequeñita, de madera, y como curiosidad tiene la parte trasera completamente lisa. La hornacina donde se halla está forrada de espejos y se puede apreciar a simple vista, pero si no te lo dicen es difícil darse cuenta.

El friso de azulejos que recorre la parte inferior de la capilla presenta en sus cuatro esquinas unos angelotes. Tres de ellos están bien pintados, pero hay uno diferente que en lugar de vientre tiene nalgas. Al parecer fue una venganza del pintor porque no le querían pagar, o eso es lo que nos contó el señor del pueblo.

El resto de altares no eran muy llamativos más allá de la buena conservación, por lo que le dimos las gracias a nuestro improvisado guía y dimos por finalizada la visita a la ermita.

Sin embargo, todavía nos mantuvimos un tiempo porque las vistas son espectaculares y había más detalles interesantes que capturar. Desde el lado de la fachada principal se disfruta de una buena panorámica del estanque con el parque y los restos de la cantera al fondo.

Fuimos a la parte posterior rodeando el templo. Me acerqué a la barandilla sabiendo que estaba pisando las piedras que colocaron los romanos hace dos mil años.

Tomé imágenes cercanas de la cantera y la perspectiva desde este otro lado, con el pueblo de Muel como fondo.

En el regreso al punto de partida pude observar que hay humedades en la parte baja. De cerca no se aprecian pero al alejarte de los muros de mampostería el cambio de color las delata.

Hi, dear hiver.

A few months ago I visited the Natural Park of Muel that is at the foot of its hermitage. Our plan to go inside was frustrated because without knowing it we chose the worst possible date: its patron saint's feast. The place was full of people with their best clothes and we were completely out of tune with the stamp, so we had to leave it for a future occasion.

A couple of days ago the perfect opportunity to do a little tourism came up and we remember our pending visit to the hermitage of the Virgen de la Fuente, this time luck was on our side and we could enjoy it without haste and with an improvised guide who explained everything to us. The town of Muel is famous for its ceramics. We find tiles everywhere and they make sure it is present in their points of greatest interest. The temple was built in 1770 and renovated in 1817. Its attractiveness lies in the fact that it contains fresco paintings made by Francisco de Goya, which attracts tourists from all over the world.

The hermitage is located on a Roman dam, something that makes it unique. The river whose water retains is the Huerva, a tributary of the Ebro that now deviates a few metres to save the dam and thus keep the temple safe from floods.

Tr: This chapel was made in 1770. It was renewed in 1817 because it was raped by the French in 1810 and 1811. Tiled again in August 1879.

It is a temple of small dimensions, with a single nave and of the neoclassical style, very simple. Being an Asset of Cultural Interest, it is taken care of and the pieces that deteriorate over time are restored.

The improvised guide was an elderly man neighbour of the town, thanks to him we learned some extra details that would have gone unnoticed if we had been on our own.

Francisco de Goya's paintings are oil frescos and represent the four Fathers of the Church: St. Gregory the Great, St. Ambrose, St. Augustine and St. Jerome. The painter made them in a hurry, I can't imagine the result he would have obtained if he had dedicated more time to them. They are perfectly appreciated as his works, the strokes, expressions and colours of the Aragonese genius are unmistakeable.

The image of the Virgin is tiny, made of wood, and as a curiosity it has a completely smooth back. The niche where it is located is lined with mirrors and can be seen with the naked eye, but if they don't tell you it's hard to realise.

The tile frieze that runs through the lower part of the chapel has angels in its four corners. Three of them are well painted, but there is a different one that instead of a belly has buttocks. Apparently it was a revenge of the painter because they didn't want to pay him, or that's what the lord of the town told us.

The rest of the altars were not very striking beyond the good conservation, so we thanked our improvised guide and ended the visit to the hermitage.

However, we still stayed for a while because the views are spectacular and there were more interesting details to capture. From the side of the main facade you can enjoy a good panoramic view of the pond with the park and the remains of the quarry in the background.

We went to the back surrounding the temple. I approached the railing knowing that I was stepping on the stones that the Romans placed two thousand years ago.

I took close images of the quarry and the perspective from this other side, with the town of Muel as a background.

On the return to the starting point I could see that there is humidity in the lower part. They are not appreciated up close but when you move away from the masonry walls the change of colour betrays them.
