A nice walk along Ameghino Dam - Un lindo paseo por Dique Ameghino

I am one of those who think that the magic of life lies in enjoying the simple things that are out there waiting for us. With that philosophy of life I can tell you that discovering and getting to know new destinations is one of the activities I enjoy the most.

In one of those trips we discovered a wonderful place called "Dique Florentino Ameghino "*, located two hundred kilometers southwest of the city of Puerto Madryn.

If I had to describe with one word this beautiful town of barely a hundred stable inhabitants, the word chosen would be amazing. Dique F. Ameghino is a dam built on the Chubut River valley more than fifty years ago, whose purpose was not only to provide a source of water power to the area, but also as a way to contain the strong floods of the Chubut River during the thawing season of the mountain range, as dangerous floods often occurred.

Soy de los que piensa que la magia de la vida radica en disfrutar de las cosas simples que están allí afuera esperando por nosotros. Con esa filosofía de vida les puedo afirmar que descubrir y conocer nuevos destinos es de las actividades que más disfruto.

En uno de esos viajes descubrimos un lugar maravilloso llamado "Dique Florentino Ameghino"*, situado a doscientos kilómetros al suroeste de la ciudad de Puerto Madryn.

Si tuviese que describir con una palabra este hermoso pueblo de apenas cien habitantes estables, la palabra elegida sería asombroso. Dique F. Ameghino es un una represa construida sobre el valle del río Chubut hace más de cincuenta años cuya finalidad no solo era proporcionar una fuente de energía hídrica a la zona, sino también como una manera de contener las fuertes crecidas del río Chubut en la época de deshielo de la cordillera, ya que a menudo se producían peligrosas inundaciones.

Over time a small village has settled on the other side of the reservoir, which has become a true paradise with a stable population of just over 100 people, but is still visited by many tourists for the large number of activities that can be done in the place.

From fishing to water sports, climbing, and beautiful walks among huge rock walls are just some of the alternatives it offers and for which it receives thousands of tourists every year in the summer months.

To get there we traveled almost two hundred kilometers of a road that is in poor condition and in which if you do not drive carefully an accident can occur. Except in a few places the scenery of the road is quite boring except when we can see some guanaco or ñandu on the roadside.

Con el paso del tiempo un pequeño pueblo se ha asentado al otro lado del embalse, que se ha convertido en un verdadero paraíso con una población estable de algo más de 100 personas, pero que aún así es muy visitado por gran cantidad de turistas por las gran cantidad de actividades que puede hacerse en el lugar.

Desde pesca a deportes acuáticos, escalada, y bellísimas caminatas entre inmensas paredes de rocas son solo algunas de las alternativas que ofrece y por el cual recibe a miles de turistas todos los años en los meses de verano.

Para llegar hasta allí recorrimos casi doscientos kilómetros de una carretera que esta en malas condiciones y en las cual si no se conduce con precaución puede ocurrir un accidente. Salvo en algunos pocos lugares el paisaje del camino es bastante aburrido a excepción de cuando podemos ver algún guanaco o ñandú sobre la banquina de la carretera.

The arrival to the place is very impressive since the last stretch of the road begins to descend by huge rocky elevations with very sharp curves where you have to be very concentrated in driving until at one point after a big curve you can see a part of the great mirror of water, as if it were a great oasis in the middle of the desert.

For those who do not know the Argentinean Patagonia, although in the mountainous part it is a very humid region with a great wealth of species of trees and flora, as we move towards the east (Atlantic Ocean) the climate begins to become arid and desert-like, with not very fertile lands mainly due to the lack of rain. That is why I mentioned that it is a real oasis.

La llegada al lugar es muy impactante ya que el último tramo del camino comienza a descender por enormes elevaciones de roca con curvas muy cerradas en donde hay que ir muy concentrado en el manejo hasta que en un momento después de una gran curva puede observarse una parte del gran espejo de agua, como si fuese un gran oasis en medio del desierto.

Para quienes no conocen la Patagonia Argentina, si bien en la parte cordillerana es una región muy húmeda y con una gran riqueza de especies de árboles y flora, a medida que nos desplazamos hacia el este (Océano Atlántico) el clima comienza a ponerse árido y desértico, con tierras poco fértiles por la falta de lluvia principalmente. Por ello les hice mención a que es un verdadero oasis.

We stayed all day in this beautiful place with my wife and daughters where we made several trekking circuits in which we could enjoy a practically virgin natural environment and we discovered several magical places among the immense rock walls.

It was in these places that we took a real dimension of how small and fragile we are. Seeing the trees standing on very fertile soil, or on the top of the rock, where they are whipped by the inclement weather shows us in a certain way how wise and how strong nature is.

Permanecimos todo el día en este hermoso lugar con mi esposa y mis hijas en el cual realizamos varias circuitos de trekking en los que pudimos disfrutar de un entorno natural prácticamente virgen y descubrimos varios sitios mágicos entre los inmensos paredones de roca.

En estos sitios en los que tomamos una real dimensión de lo pequeños y frágiles que somos. Ver los árboles sostenerse en terrenos muy copo fértiles, o en lo alto de la roca, en los que son azotados por las inclemencias del clima nos muestra de cierta manera lo sabia y lo fuerte que es la naturaleza.

Life is made to be enjoyed and this is my way of doing it, it is my way of feeling alive and above all to extend this way of living life to my little daughters, showing them that out there there are a lot of places that can make us feel alive, in fullness.

My great legacy will be all those places that we discovered and enjoyed together, the love for traveling, for nature and above all that great world of memories that we are building together.

La vida está hecha para ser disfrutada y esta es mi manera de hacerlo, es mi manera de sentirme vivo y sobre todo extender esta manera de vivir la vida a mis pequeñas hijas, mostrándoles que allí afuera hay una gran cantidad de lugares que pueden hacer que nos sintamos vivos, en plenitud.

Mi gran legado serán todos esos lugares que supimos descubrir y disfrutar juntos, el amor por viajar, por la naturaleza y sobre todo ese gran mundo de recuerdos que juntos vamos construyendo.
