A Dark Mystery.

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

After scouting with Enkidu, I reached a merchant camp avoiding a snake attack. I investigated a mystery involving a beheaded horse and found a letter revealing an intimidation plot. While I was escorting the Greek merchants toward a Karkh gate, some bandits triggered an explosion to launch a surprise attack.

After scouting the area using the help of Enkidu, I understood that I would have to get inside the date forest to look for the merchants.

Then I noticed there was a wild snake close by all this time. It was coiled and ready to bite me, but I did not give it a chance to strike.

Then I started riding through the beautiful green part of the desert. The landscape was full of life, providing a nice break from the dry sand I usually traveled across.

After reaching the camp, I found the lead merchant and spoke with him about the trouble they were facing. We talked about a beheaded horse that had shocked everyone in the group.

Basim said he would try to find out what happened there and promised to investigate the surrounding area for answers.

I started investigating the merchant site and found the horse's head that had been carried to the center of the camp. It was a terrible sight to see. I found the merchant who was the owner of the horse crying nearby, and he gave me a small clue about the incident.

I found another merchant who said the incident happened in the dark night, so he could not see the culprit very well. He saw someone moving in the shadows but he could not be sure of their identity.

I called Enkidu again and I noticed there was a bandit trying to bury or dig something a little far from the camp. I went to him quickly and took him down to see if he was involved. Unfortunately, I did not find any useful clues on him that would explain the incident.

Then I found a letter in the campsite that looked like guard instructions. This piece of paper gave Basim a final conclusion about what had actually happened there. It revealed a plan to scare the merchants away from Karkh.

I had to go back to the lead merchant to conclude the investigation with him. Basim told him this was a work of intimidation. Someone was trying to prevent the merchants' arrival in the city.

Basim decided to escort the merchant and his crew to the gates to prevent any worse fears from coming true.

The merchants were happy to have me by their side, and we started riding for the Karkh gate. While we moved, a merchant said they came from a place called Greece, far across the water. They were carrying goods to and from Baghdad, and they thanked me for keeping their journey safe.

On our ride, I noticed some barrels of oil on our way, and I understood something was not right. Suddenly, someone exploded the barrels, and a group of bandits came out to attack us.

It is fascinating to see such a lush, green part of the desert. Riding through the date forest really highlights how diverse the landscape around Baghdad can be compared to the open dunes.

Correct. It's not what you expect in a desert region.

The investigation into the horse was really well-narrated. It is clear that the culprits wanted to send a message, and finding that letter was the perfect way to confirm it was all about intimidation.

That investigation part was most interesting to me. The photo of the beheaded horse made the whole situation scary.
