The Splendor of Intat Linto Baroe: Weaving Traditions in the Bumi Serambi Mekkah (Aceh)

On a bright morning in a village in Aceh, the community gathered to witness one of the most anticipated traditional processions—Intat Linto Baroe, a tradition of escorting the groom to the bride's home. Dressed in magnificent Acehnese traditional attire, the linto baroe (groom) looked dashing, accompanied by his extended family and traditional officials. A golden umbrella, a symbol of honor, shaded his steps.

Traditional music, such as rapa'i and the chanting of dhikr (remembrance of God) greeted the bride and groom. Young men dressed in black lined up neatly, playing musical instruments, maintaining a solemn atmosphere. Meanwhile, women and invited guests, dressed in elegant Muslim attire, sat neatly and enjoyed traditional Acehnese dishes.

Upon arrival at the event, the linto baroe was greeted with a traditional welcome and a communal prayer. On the wedding dais, decorated with beautiful red and white flowers, the elders and family sat to witness this sacred moment. Joyful faces could be seen among the crowd of guests packed around the tent.

Not only was the delicious food served, but the warm atmosphere of togetherness was palpable. Guests enjoyed the food while chatting, children played happily around the yard, and women were busy distributing food to the guests.

In another corner, piles of wedding gifts wrapped in colorful paper were visible. These were tokens of love and support from relatives and guests for the newlyweds.

Intat Linto Baroe is not merely a ceremony, but a reflection of a tradition that is still alive and highly respected by the Acehnese people. It is a form of respect for ancestors and a way to maintain the values of togetherness, honor, and religiosity in marriage.
