Taormina - the perfect spot

Taormina is probably the most beautiful city I have seen so far. Its exceptional location, nature and amazing architecture will leave you breathless.

Upon arrival at Taormina's Giardini, the old and beautiful train station, you will begin to climb the serpentines to reach the town. I prefer hiking, so it took me about 35 minutes to get to the city center.
The city is located high on a hill and resembles a fairy tale. Once you climb up, you'll enjoy a beautiful view of the Ionian Sea and, of course, the mighty Mount Etna, which seems to float in the sky as it attracts feathery white clouds.

Curved and narrow streets, ancient villas and marble palaces, you will see it all in Taormina.

For centuries, everyone wanted to win it! The history of Taormina dates back to ancient Greece. Around 700 BC, the Greeks founded the first settlement. The Romans took over the city in the 2nd century BC.
After the Romans, the Byzantine Empire briefly took over. Then the Arabs conquered southern Italy in the 1st century BC. and Taormina became Al Muzia. This is why the city has so many archaeological remains.

Due to its location on top of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the city was coveted by various powers. From Taormina, it's easy to see everything approaching.

The ruins of an ancient Greek theatre. They built it, but the Romans improved it and used it for a long time. Considering its age, it’s in pretty good shape.
