Portrait of an old friend - monomad challenge

Once upon a high school time, I knew a boy who was a gifted artist. He would spend hours sketching, expressing his emotions and ideas. He possessed a unique perspective on the world we live in, although his life became increasingly complex as he got older. After school, we didn't keep in touch, I didn't know where he lived or what he did. Knowing him, I could only assume that he left this hellhole without turning around. But, that was not the case..

It's been more than a decade since we've heard or seen each other, and it turns out we live 2.5 hours of drive away from each other. To my surprise, things changed when I received the call last month.

"I am coming for a weekend if you are still in town. I might have some interesting ideas that we could work through together."

He appeared with a bottle of Yugoslavia heroes and one of the works that I had mentioned to him earlier that I would like to have.
While we were talking, I understood that through all these years he never gave up on his ideas and aspiration to create art, even though he had to overcome many difficult life challenges.
