PhotoEdits @oscarps - Legacies and traditions
The start of a series of regional festivities in the area where I live always surprises me because of its variety and its customs that are well rooted in time. The region of Extremadura in the Iberian Peninsula, Spain is very rich in these legacies of tradition that endure over the years. This beautiful spring morning, already announcing an approach to summer, I found some friends who represented and continued one of these legacies of culture and tradition. Livestock in this northern region of the province has been key, and it is because of its enormous variety, both in terms of livestock species and ecosystems.
Large herds of sheep and goats graze and roam freely in this area in the south of the province of Cáceres and coexist with cattle with designation of origin, the Retinta Extremadura. The representation of a head of cattle that becomes almost the main scene of this festive event is one of the most remarkable aspects of this tradition that has been passed down from father to son and represents the strength and abundance that they have tried to maintain in time.
My friends from this area told me about the importance that this type of cultural issues is given in this area of the country and that maintaining them and bringing them live to show many people that this day is approaching is part of their work. The city of Cáceres, in its main square, is an important cultural, gastronomic and social meeting place in this province of Extremadura and there are usually important events almost all year round. As a representative part of this region, this series of images makes clear and without many comments the meaning of this staging that I show you today.

El inicio de una serie de festividades regionales en la zona donde vivo siempre me sorprende por su variedad y por sus costumbres bien arraigadas en el tiempo. La región de Extremadura en la península Ibérica, España es muy rica en estos legados de tradición que perduran a lo largo de los años. Esta hermosa mañana de primavera ya anunciando un acercamiento al verano encontré a unos amigos que representaban y continuaban uno de estos legados de cultura y tradición. La ganadería es esta región de norte de la provincia ha sido clave y lo es por su enorme variedad, tanto de especies ganaderas como de ecosistemas.
Grandes rebaños de ovejas y cabras pastan y campan a sus anchas por esta zona del sur de la provincia de Cáceres y cohabitan con el ganado vacuno con denominación de origen, la retinta extremeña. La representación de una cabeza de ganado que se convierte en escena casi principal de este acontecimiento festivo es una de las cuestiones más remarcables de esta tradición que se ha dejado de padres a hijos y representa la fuerza y la abundancia que se ha tratado de mantener en el tiempo.
Mis amigos de esta zona me hablaban de la importancia que en esta zona del país se les da a este tipo de cuestiones culturales y que mantenerlas y traerlas en vivo para mostrar a muchas personas que este día se acercan es parte de su labor. La ciudad de Cáceres, en su plaza mayor es un lugar importante de encuentro cultural, gastronómico y social de esta provincia extremeña y suele siempre haber importantes acontecimientos casi todo el año. Como parte representativa de esta región esta serie de imágenes dejan a las claras y sin muchos comentarios el significado de esta escenificación que hoy os muestro.
La selección de algunas de estas imágenes que he tomado este día ha sido una cuestión bastante especial para mí ya que quería mostrar la esencia de esta fiesta cultural. Estos amigos también me sugerían que tomase imágenes de ellos desde diferentes puntos y en diferentes escenas así es que me puse manos a la obra. Espero que os haya gustado esta serie de imágenes que os muestro y que forman parte de la cultura de esta región. Saludos amigos.

Saludos, amigo @oscarps. Me ha llamado la atención todo lo que cuentas en esta publicación. ¿Qué nombre reciben estas festividades? Me gustaría investigar más al respecto, pues resulta interesante que en un país tan ligado al cristianismo, como lo es España, se celebren este tipo de tradiciones.
Buenos días @juniorgomez , esta festividad es un macroevento rural que se celebra en la capital de provincia, la ciudad de Cáceres, patrimonio de la humanidad. Se llama JATO y estas imágenes en cuestión y la publicación anterior y posterior están tomadas en este año 2023, esto es entre el 23 de marzo al 25 .
