Hello Hivernauts

In my country it is a tradition to keep the Christmas decorations during the first weeks of January, both in homes and in public spaces.

Last Monday, January 1st, I went with a group of friends to visit the Paseo Libertador, an extensive boulevard of more than one kilometer that is located on Libertador Avenue, the longest avenue of Ciudad Bolivar in Venezuela.

This boulevard is a public space that belongs to the military installations of Fort Cayaurima, headquarters of the 5th Infantry Division of the army, a base located in the heart of the city. This boulevard was created decades ago for the annual military parades that commemorate the independence of Venezuela.

On this occasion several Christmas decorations were installed and several attractions were placed for family enjoyment, food fairs, amusement park, street performers and floats.

We arrived at Paseo Libertador in the late afternoon to take some pictures of its old military vehicles that are its traditional historical monuments, and then waited for nightfall to enjoy all the splendor of the Christmas decorations and attractions open to the public.

I was delighted to see so many families taking their children for rides, eating treats, and enjoying all the rides and attractions. There were also many young couples walking their pets, children on bicycles, and adults of all ages taking pictures at all the attractions and decorations along the entire boulevard.

For me it was a moving experience that brought back many memories. This is where my mother used to bring me when I was a little boy, this is where I learned to ride a bike, fly kites and watch military parades in the 80s.

I wish with all my heart that this type of space for recreation becomes a tradition every December and the city has a special place for tourists and citizens in such a special time of the year.

See you soon!
