Via Dei Sapiti - Fontana Dello Sprone / Road Trip Through Italy

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)
Walking through the streets of Florence is like strolling through a history book that has refused to embrace trends, maintaining its essence and history. Every stone, every corner, every gate seems to have its own story to tell. But there are moments, almost intimate experiences, when the city reveals itself in a truly secret way, and that's exactly what happened to me when I got lost on Via dei Sapiti to say goodbye to this city.

Via dei Sapiti is one of those narrow streets that forces you to slow down to absorb everything. It's narrow, lined with old buildings with windows decorated with intricate ironwork, and has that feeling of peeking into a Florence that few tourists know. I felt as if I were walking among the whispers of Renaissance figures who once walked these same stones. But, unlike the more famous streets, here time moves slower because the experience demands it, as if the city gives us permission to simply exist and absorb everything around us.

While trying to decipher the signs of the past in the details of the facades, I found the Fontana dello Sprone, small, shy, hidden in a corner that would go unnoticed by many. I confess that at first I wondered if it would really be worth it. But just getting close, hearing the sound of the falling water and observing the details of the sculpture, is enough to realize that this is one of those moments that justify the trip itself. The fountain is modest, yes, but it has personality. Dating from the 16th century, it is the work of Piero da San Cresci, and serves as a silent reminder that not all the beauties of Florence are on tourist maps or Instagram lists.

As I approached, I noticed the curious contrast between the ancient stone and the shy green of the plants that insist on growing in the corners of the fountain. I thought about how something so simple, so seemingly mundane, can create such an immensely philosophical feeling of tranquility. Is it the history we feel there, or just the sound of the water?

Certainly, countless people, mostly tourists, have passed by without realizing it, without having had the opportunity to reflect on the lives these stones have witnessed. And, of course, I couldn't help but imagine the wise men, as the street's name suggests, who once walked here, debating philosophy, politics, or art, perhaps even reflecting on the same dilemmas that occupy us today.
PT

The charm of Via dei Sapiti and Fontana dello Sprone lies not in their grandeur, but in their intimacy. The city invites you to stop, to look closely, to listen to the stories that only those who take the time to explore can perceive. As I walked back to busier streets, with the crowds and noise of tourists and scooters, I was very happy to have discovered this little corner. A place where history blends with the poetry of everyday life and where beauty is discreet, but profoundly unforgettable.

We don't always need enormous monuments or panoramic views to feel touched during one of these journeys. Sometimes, all it takes is a narrow street, a hidden fountain, and the willingness to listen to its stories. Florence, with all its fame and world-renowned art, still holds corners that remind us that traveling is, above all, a matter of curiosity and allowing oneself to get lost and find a little magic hidden in the small details.

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
