Tavira - Boat Trip - Ilha de Tavira / Riding Portugal

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)
I confess I have a thing for boats. Not luxury yachts, nor seven-am shrimp buffet cruises (and I really like shrimp). I like these short, simple trips that start at a modest pier and slowly take us to a place where the world seems to stand still. That's what our trip to Tavira Island Beach was like.

But before you imagine typical July chaos in the Algarve, let me dispel that image. Taking a boat to the island is, surprisingly, a super organized experience. Seriously. Everything operates with an almost Swiss efficiency, but with an Algarve accent, warmth, and good humor thrown in. There are ferries leaving several times an hour during the summer, with precise schedules, affordable tickets, and logistics that work better than many public transportation systems in big cities. I was genuinely impressed. There's more confusion buying tickets for a show than boarding to Tavira Island.

A sério.

I boarded the ferry with a strange feeling. It was all so easy it almost felt like something was missing. But I quickly forgot about it as the boat began to glide along the Ria Formosa.

And how wonderful it was... The calm water, the narrow channels, the sandbars appearing and disappearing with the tide, the birds flying overhead as if they owned it all. Spotting flamingos (yes, real flamingos) strolling with that proud air was like the icing on the cake. We could also see the salt flats, which I hadn't even known existed, and from afar, Fort Rato. I sat on the upper deck, letting my hair blow in the wind, and found myself thinking. Do we always have to go so far to find places that make us feel small and awed?

The trip takes a little over 15 minutes, but it's one of those trips that could have lasted an hour and no one complained. The crossing is more than just transportation. It's almost a rite of passage. A "disconnection" from the mainland, from notifications, from the rush. The boat takes us, yes, to the beach. But it also takes us to another frequency, slower, lighter.

Upon arriving on the island, there's a wooden walkway that guides us to the beach. But at that moment, even before setting foot on the sand, I was already happy. Because sometimes the journey is as beautiful, if not more so, than the destination.
And knowing that, at the end of the day, I can repeat it all again but in a different light, watching the sun set on the horizon on the return trip, just makes me want to go back. Over and over again.

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
