Quinta Vila Beatriz - Ermesinde / Riding Portugal

Vila Beatriz, in Ermesinde, is a place with a great history and is considered one of the city's emblematic points. This farm, built in the early years of the 20th century, was commissioned by Amadeu Ferreira de Sousa Vilar, a name that, over the years, has remained associated with this very special space. The building's architecture is the work of architect José Teixeira Lopes Júnior, who used an eclectic style, influenced by the aesthetics of the “Portuguese house” of the time.

A Vila Beatriz, em Ermesinde, é um local que tem uma grande história e é considerado um dos pontos emblemáticos da cidade. Esta quinta, cuja construção aconteceu nos primeiros anos do século XX, foi mandada edificar por Amadeu Ferreira de Sousa Vilar, um nome que, com o passar dos anos, se mantém associado a este espaço tão especial. A arquitetura do edifício é obra do arquiteto José Teixeira Lopes Júnior, que utilizou um estilo eclético, influenciado pela estética da “casa portuguesa” da época.

The building is decorated with tile panels from the renowned Aleluia factory in Aveiro, which show rural scenes, taking us to a simpler environment connected to the land. These tiles not only decorate the space, but are also testaments to an era that privileged contact with nature and country life. There is a tower and a sundial on the building that contribute to its beauty and particularity, making it a landmark in the Ermesinde landscape.

O edifício é decorado com painéis de azulejos da reconhecida fábrica Aleluia, de Aveiro, que demonstram cenas rurais levando-nos para um ambiente mais simples e ligado à terra. Estes azulejos não só decoram o espaço, mas também são testemunhos de uma época que privilegiava o contacto com a natureza e a vida no campo. Existe uma torre e um relógio de sol no edifício que contribuem para a sua beleza e particularidade, tornando-o um ponto de referência na paisagem de Ermesinde.

It belonged to Luís Soares, an important industrialist in the city, and Vila Beatriz was acquired by the Valongo City Council in 1985. From 1989 onwards, the space began to be adapted into a Sociocultural Center, gaining new functions and meanings for the community. Today, Vila Beatriz has a reading center at the Valongo Municipal Library, which offers residents a space for culture and learning. In addition, the space is used for exhibitions, lectures and other cultural activities that promote social interaction and intellectual development.

Pertenceu a Luís Soares, um importante industrial da cidade, a Vila Beatriz foi adquirida pela Câmara Municipal de Valongo em 1985. A partir de 1989, o espaço passou a ser adaptado para um Centro Sociocultural, ganhando novas funções e significados para a comunidade. Hoje, a Vila Beatriz tem um polo de leitura da Biblioteca Municipal de Valongo, que oferece aos residentes um espaço de cultura e aprendizagem. Além disso, o espaço é utilizado para exposições, palestras e outras atividades culturais que promovem a interação social e o desenvolvimento intelectual.

Although the library was closed during our visit, its importance is undeniable. The peaceful atmosphere felt in this place makes it a perfect space for reading and relaxing, and the well-kept, tree-lined gardens contribute to the serenity of this place. They invite you to take walks and relax, with trees that provide shade, a grassy court and a playground where families and children can enjoy the day.

Embora a biblioteca estivesse encerrada durante a nossa visita, a sua importância é inegável. O ambiente tranquilo que se sente neste local faz dele um espaço perfeito para a leitura e descanso e os jardins bem cuidados e arborizados, contribuem para a serenidade deste sítio. Convidam a passeios e momentos de descanso, com árvores que oferecem sombra , um campo relvado e um parque infantil onde famílias e crianças podem aproveitar o dia.

In addition to the library and the gardens, another space that is very familiar to me is the café located in the village, a place where I spent many afternoons during my adolescence. This little café was the meeting place where you talked about life, shared laughs and enjoyed a good coffee.

Para além da biblioteca e dos jardins, outro espaço que me é muito familiar é o café situado na vila, um local onde passei muitas tardes durante a minha adolescência. Este pequeno café era o ponto de encontro onde se falava sobre a vida, se partilhavam risadas e se saboreava um bom café.

At the back of this building, we find the tennis court and the municipal swimming pools, spaces that also have great meaning for me. It was here that, every Sunday, my father played tennis with his friends, while I had fun swimming in the pools. The vibrant energy of Sundays spent between sports and fun in the water is part of my fondest memories. These places have always been synonymous with happy moments, family life and healthy leisure, and even today, when I visit Vila Beatriz, these moments come alive in my memory.

Na parte de trás deste edificio, encontramos o corte de ténis e as piscinas municipais, espaços que também têm um grande significado para mim. Era aqui que, todos os domingos, o meu pai jogava ténis com os seus amigos, enquanto eu me divertia a nadar nas piscinas. A energia vibrante dos domingos passados entre o desporto e a diversão aquática faz parte das minhas memórias mais queridas. Esses locais sempre foram sinónimo de momentos felizes, de convívio familiar e de lazer saudável, e ainda hoje, quando visito a Vila Beatriz, esses momentos revivem em minha memória.

In short, Vila Beatriz is a place where history, nature and culture come together. For those who have the privilege of living or visiting there, it is a place that offers both the charm of history and the vitality of a space for living and learning.
