Praça Catedral de Pisa - Pisa Toscana / Road Trip Through Italy

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)
When we were in Pisa, it was one of those days when the sun seemed determined to prove it's the true star of Tuscany. The city, which many people associate only with the famous leaning tower, surprised me right from the start, because honestly, Pisa is much more than a crooked monument. And I've already shown you that in previous posts.

The Cathedral Square, or Piazza dei Miracoli (a beautiful name), is the historical and spiritual heart of the city. And there's something almost magical about how everything is arranged there: the majestic cathedral, the round and elegant baptistery, the silent cemetery, and of course, the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, leaning as if it had decided to rest a little after so many centuries standing.

Walking around here is like stepping into a history book. But one of those well-written ones, full of eccentric characters and plot twists. The tower, for example, began construction in 1173 and leaned almost from the beginning. I imagine the panic of the medieval engineers scratching their heads and trying to understand what went wrong. The sandy, unstable soil did the rest of the work, and what could have been an architectural catastrophe ended up becoming one of the most recognizable icons on the planet. Irony of fate, isn't it?

As I walked across the grass of the square, that perfect grass where everyone tries to take the classic photo holding up the tower, I began to think about how this tilt ended up defining Pisa's destiny. A flaw transformed into worldwide fame. The idea that what is imperfect can be precisely what makes us unique.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, right next door, is a masterpiece of the Pisan Romanesque style, full of elegant columns and marbles of various shades. Inside, the smell of ancient stone and the almost sacred silence contrast with the constant murmur of tourists outside. I looked around in amazement and thought about how many eyes must have done the same throughout the centuries.

Then, the Baptistery. They say the acoustics are so good that a single sound echoes like a small choir. And it's true, because I heard a guide sing a few notes and I got goosebumps. For a moment, it seemed like time had stopped.

I took advantage of it, sat on the grass and watched. People from all over the world laughing, taking photos, striking absurd poses. And then I realized that there's a kind of universal magic in that place. Pisa is basically a celebration of imperfection, a reminder that even leaning towers can stand for centuries.

Aproveitei, sentei-me na relva e fiquei a observar.

But Pisa isn't just about its monumental past. Leaving the square and turning into one of the narrow streets, you'll find cozy cafes and students from the University of Pisa, one of the oldest in Italy, chatting animatedly. It's here that the city shows its most authentic soul, amidst strong espressos, creamy ice cream, and that tranquil rhythm that only Italian cities seem to master.
I left there with a fixed idea in my head. Perhaps we all have a bit of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in us, with a crooked, curious side that stubbornly stands upright, even when the world pulls us down.

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health

In one of the premier land of the art, culture, pizza, soccer (El Calcio) and the vatican
Absolutely! Italy really is a treasure trove of art, culture, food, soccer, and history. There’s something unforgettable around every corner.
Quality is really the premium in Pisa. The architecture, the monuments, and the vibrant people makes it interesting to visit and it makes the place have tourism quality and historical quality. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is my favorite feature of the place even if I have not seen it. It contains history, our ancestors, and collective memories leaning for centuries now. Not only we see great architectures there but also cafes, ice creams, the people, and even students from the university. Well, that's many pretty things in one place. No wonder you did a visit there. Thank you for sharing this to us @onyfest ❤️
Thank U so much! Pisa truly has a unique charm. From its history and architecture to its lively streets and cafés. I’m glad the visit and the photos could capture a bit of that😄

Muchas gracias!
It’s so true that imperfections can make something even more beautiful. It kind of reminds me that people are like that too — our flaws can make us unique
Exactly! Imperfections often add character and beauty, both in places and in people. It’s a lovely way to look at the world.
It's such a lovely place to visit. I've always dreamed to have a trip in that place, maybe not now but soon. 😍
Thank U! I hope you get to visit soon. it’s truly a lovely place that’s worth the wait.
Wow. The buildings there are very huge, I would say. Also, It's my first time learning that a tilt tower exists. It's cool to know that it remained standing that way for a very long time. At the same time, It looks scary though😅 . Thanks for sharing beautiful pictures.
Thank U! The Leaning Tower of Pisa is definitely impressive, a bit scary but fascinating that it’s stood that way for so long 😅 I’m glad you enjoyed the photos!
I love how you captured Pisa beyond the usual tourist lens. The way you tied the tower’s imperfection to our own uniqueness is such a beautiful perspective also! ❤️
Thank U so much! I’m glad that perspective resonated with U ❤️ Pisa really does have so much more to offer beyond the usual sights.

Thank U! I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. The history of the place really makes it feel unforgettable
I remember when I first visited Pisa when I was a kid. It was so amazing to see the tower and how surprisingly tilted it was. To be honest, it's the only thing I remember, so I think I should visit the city again. Because seeing your pictures, there's a lot of architecture, beautiful buildings and sculptures that I don't remember and I would like to revisit.
Thank U! Pisa really has so much more to offer beyond the Leaning Tower. Revisiting is definitely worth it to appreciate all the beautiful architecture and hidden details.
