Piazza Dante "Piazza dei Signori" - Verona / Road Trip Through Italy

cover.jpg

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

Second day in Verona. I woke up very early, not out of obligation but because the daylight was already streaming through the window and clearly begging to be enjoyed :) again, a clear sky with a friendly sun, that kind of morning that makes you go out into the street trusting in the plans that the city itself will have for you, as long as you move and go looking for them. We started at Piazza Dante, almost by chance, as we were looking for a place to have coffee, and that's where we found that little square, not very big and thankfully so, also known as Piazza dei Signori, it has a restrained and elegant atmosphere and aspect. As soon as we arrived, I felt that I was in one of those typical Italian spaces full of personality and visually appealing, which compel us to stop, because only then is it possible to absorb so much detail and so much visual and sensory information.

In the center of the small square is a sculpture of Dante Alighieri, wrapped in his cloak as if he were eternally judging everything around him. I found it ironic that the poet of exile was immortalized in a calm square, surrounded by life.
Tourists with cell phones in hand, locals rushing across the square in the hustle and bustle of their daily routines, and Dante standing there, immortalized in stone, observing everything.

Around them, the buildings evoke countless stories, witnessed by those facades worn by time but well-maintained, with their typical tall, elegant windows. The Palazzo della Ragione stands discreetly, while the Loggia del Consiglio adds an almost solemn touch to the place. It's an effortless harmony, something the Italians seem to master like no other.

The sunlight highlights the details of the stone, the textures, the small imperfections that make everything more human and not a symbol of perfection. I stood there just observing, trying not to let myself be affected by the hands of the clock that never stop ticking, and with each turn, the time to return was closer.

The atmosphere was calm, but not still. There was a tranquil energy in the air, that feeling that the city is awake, but not in a hurry, at least for those who are strolling. A street musician tuned his instrument from afar, and the café tables began to fill up.

Piazza Dante is a very subtle, very humble space, despite all the richness one can find there—an architectural and cultural richness. It's a space with an atmosphere that slowly creeps in and stays. It's the kind of space that reminds us that traveling isn't just about chasing after the obligatory sights, but about knowing how to stop where the city simply is itself.
I got up after some time, without knowing exactly how long. On trips, that's usually a good sign. We moved on, leaving Dante behind and waiting for what would come next.

PT

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health

It is actually very humble considering Dante is one of the greatest poets in history. His Commedia is one of my favorite books. I don't know if you're aware of but in Mendoza (Argentina) there's a square with scenes from that book, including Dante and Beatrice. You can check it out here.
Thanks for sharing
