Parque de Santo António - Vila Nova Foz Côa / Riding Portugal

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

After a generous lunch in the center of Foz Côa, we needed a quiet place to slow down and let the food settle before continuing to explore the city. That's how we ended up in Santo António Park, a pleasant green space that turned out to be exactly what we were looking for at that moment, and which happened to be right around the corner in a very central and well-positioned location.

Depois de um almoço generoso no centro de Foz Côa, precisávamos de um lugar calmo para abrandar o ritmo e deixar a comida assentar, antes de continuar a explorar a cidade. Foi assim que acabámos por entrar no Parque de Santo António, um espaço verde agradável que acabou por ser exatamente aquilo que procurávamos naquele momento, e que por acaso ficava mesmo ali ao virar da esquina num local muito central e bem posicionado.

The park extends over a large and well-maintained area, with several pedestrian paths crossing lawns, wooded areas, and spaces dedicated to leisure. Despite being located relatively close to the urban center, the atmosphere inside was very peaceful, with movement but without crowds. Some families were enjoying the afternoon outdoors, while other people occupied the benches scattered throughout the park, simply resting or chatting.

O parque estende-se por uma área ampla e bem cuidada, com vários percursos pedonais a atravessar relvados, zonas arborizadas e espaços dedicados ao lazer. Apesar de se localizar relativamente perto do centro urbano, o ambiente ali dentro era bastante tranquilo, com movimento, mas sem confusão. Algumas famílias aproveitavam a tarde ao ar livre, enquanto outras pessoas ocupavam os bancos espalhados pelo parque, simplesmente a descansar ou a conversar.

The first thing we did was look for shade. It was a hot day, and after our meal, the idea of ​​sitting for a while seemed much more appealing than immediately continuing our walk through the city streets. That's where we found a bench under one of the larger trees and stayed for a few minutes, just resting and watching the activity around us, and obviously taking some photos :)

A primeira coisa que fizemos foi procurar sombra. O dia estava quente e, depois da refeição, a ideia de ficar algum tempo sentado parecia bem mais apelativa do que continuar imediatamente a caminhar pelas ruas da cidade, e foi mesmo ali que encontrámos um banco debaixo de uma das árvores maiores e ficámos por ali alguns minutos, somente a descansar e a observar o movimento à nossa volta, e obviamente a tirar algumas fotos :)

One of the things that most caught my attention was the diversity of spaces within the park. There are areas clearly designed for younger children, with play structures and adventure areas where some activity was visible, and at the same time, there are various sports equipment and open areas that allow for different types of use without one interfering too much with the other.

Uma das características que mais me chamou a atenção foi a diversidade de espaços dentro do parque. Há zonas claramente pensadas para os mais novos, com estruturas de diversão e áreas de aventura onde se via alguma atividade, e ao mesmo tempo, existem vários equipamentos desportivos e áreas abertas que permitem diferentes tipos de utilização, sem que umas interfiram muito com as outras.

The lawn occupies a significant part of the space and helps create a feeling of openness uncommon in many urban parks. Some people were sitting directly on the grass enjoying the sun, while others sought the shade of the trees, like us :) The most frequent sounds were scattered conversations and children playing in the distance in a space entirely adapted and dedicated to them.

O relvado ocupa uma parte significativa do espaço e ajuda a criar uma sensação de abertura pouco comum em muitos parques urbanos. Algumas pessoas estavam sentadas diretamente na relva a aproveitar o sol, enquanto que outras procuravam a sombra das árvores, como nós :) O som mais presente era o das conversas dispersas e das crianças a brincar ao longe num espaço inteiramente adaptado e dedicado a elas.

After sitting there for a while, with the temperature seeming a little more bearable, we resumed our walk. The visit continued, but that pause in the park made all the difference simply for the rest and that moment of tranquility it provided, proving to be one of the most pleasant stops of the day, especially since after lunch, it must have been the only one I remember :) After that, it was always walking through streets and alleys, going up and down, in the sun, but always looking for shade, but it was a walk that went well.

Depois de algum tempo ali sentados, com a temperatura a parecer um pouco mais suportável, acabámos por retomar o passeio. A visita continuou, mas aquela pausa no parque fez toda a diferença somente pelo descanso e por aquele momento de tranquilidade que proporcionou, revelando-se uma das paragens mais agradáveis do dia, até porque após o almoço, deve ter sido a única de que me lembre :) depois disto foi sempre a andar a percorrer ruas e ruelas, a subir e a descer, pelo sol, mas sempre à procura da sombra, mas foi um passeio que se fez bem.
