After a day of sightseeing and discovering Chaves, we decided to end our visit in a delicious and even more special way. We took the grandmothers to the famous Pastelaria Maria, a true relic in the city, where we tasted the best pastel de Chaves, one of the most traditional delicacies in the region.

Após um dia de passeios e descobertas por Chaves, decidimos terminar a nossa visita de uma forma deliciosa e ainda mais especial. Levámos as avós até à famosa Pastelaria Maria, uma verdadeira relíquia na cidade, onde saboreámos o melhor pastel de Chaves, uma das iguarias mais tradicionais da região.

The Chaves pastel is enchanting in every way. Its thin and crispy puff pastry melts in your mouth easily, releasing the flavor of the filling, which is the real star. The meat, which can be beef or pork, is well seasoned, with a mixture of onion, garlic and spices, giving it an intense but balanced flavor. The succulence of the filling, combined with the crunchiness of the dough, makes this pastry a true local delicacy, capable of pleasing even the most demanding palates. We left the bakery with a bag full of pastries, ready to enjoy throughout the day and share with those we love.

O pastel de Chaves encanta em todos os sentidos. A sua massa folhada, fina e crocante, desmancha-se na boca com facilidade, liberando o sabor do recheio, que é a verdadeira estrela. A carne, que pode ser de vaca ou de porco, é bem temperada, com uma mistura de cebola, alho e especiarias, conferindo-lhe um sabor intenso, mas equilibrado. A suculência do recheio, combinada com a crocância da massa, faz deste pastel uma verdadeira iguaria local, capaz de agradar até os paladares mais exigentes. Saímos da padaria com uma saca cheia de pastéis, prontos para saborear ao longo do dia e ainda partilhar com quem mais gostamos.

With our stomachs full and a feeling of complete satisfaction, we headed towards Chaves Castle, one of the city's most emblematic landmarks. The Castle, which dates back to medieval times, has a fascinating history. Although much of the fortification has been destroyed over the centuries, its imposing walls still stand proudly, offering stunning views of the city and the surrounding landscape. The keep, the only surviving part of the castle, seems to hold the secrets of ancient times. We took the opportunity to take some photos, capturing the contrast between the historic strength of the tower and the modernity that surrounds the city. Chaves Castle, with its aged stones, is a true testament to resistance and persistence over the centuries.

Com o estômago satisfeito e uma sensação de satisfação completa, fomos em direção ao Castelo de Chaves, um dos marcos mais emblemáticos da cidade. O Castelo, que remonta à época medieval, tem uma história fascinante. Apesar de grande parte da fortificação ter sido destruída ao longo dos séculos, as suas imponentes muralhas ainda se erguem com orgulho, oferecendo uma vista deslumbrante da cidade e da paisagem à sua volta. A torre de menagem, a única parte do castelo que sobreviveu, parece guardar os segredos de tempos antigos. Aproveitámos para tirar algumas fotos, capturando o contraste entre a força histórica da torre e a modernidade que rodeia a cidade. O Castelo de Chaves, com as suas pedras envelhecidas, é um verdadeiro testemunho da resistência e da persistência ao longo dos séculos.

From there we continued exploring the streets of the most picturesque neighborhoods in this part of the city. The narrow streets, with their old houses, have a unique charm, full of personality. Wrought iron balconies, many of them painted in bright colors, create a welcoming and lively atmosphere. The houses, in shades of yellow, white, blue and even green, are surrounded by flowerbeds, which add a touch of color and freshness to the landscape. The carefully tended flowers are a real treat for the eyes, from red geraniums and begonias to daisy petals and violets, which seem to bloom with the same enthusiasm as the city. Every corner reveals a new scene of tranquility, with residents on their balconies enjoying the calm of the day.

Dali continuamos explorar as ruas dos bairros mais pitorescos desta parte da cidade. As ruas estreitas, com as suas casas antigas, têm um encanto único, repleto de personalidade. As varandas de ferro forjado, muitas delas pintadas de cores vivas, criam uma atmosfera acolhedora e cheia de vida. As casas, em tons de amarelo, branco, azul e até verde, são rodeadas por canteiros floridos, que dão um toque de cor e frescor à paisagem. As flores, cuidadosamente tratadas, são um verdadeiro presente para os olhos, desde gerânios vermelhos e begónias até pétalas de margaridas e violetas, que parecem florescer com o mesmo entusiasmo da cidade. Cada esquina revela uma nova cena de tranquilidade, com os moradores, nas suas varandas, a desfrutarem da calma do dia.

The combination of the colors of the houses, the smell of the flowers and the tranquility of the streets make Chaves a charming city, where time seems to pass more slowly. The setting is perfect for a relaxing stroll, where you can lose track of time while observing the simple beauty of local daily life.
That's how, at the end of our visit, we ended up discovering the true soul of Chaves, a city that combines history, tradition and natural beauty in a unique way. The mix of culture, cuisine and the authenticity of its streets made this visit not just a stroll, but a true immersion in the city's life and its deepest traditions.

A combinação das cores das casas, o cheiro das flores e a tranquilidade das ruas tornam Chaves uma cidade encantadora, onde o tempo parece passar mais devagar. O cenário é perfeito para um passeio relaxante, em que se pode perder a noção do tempo enquanto se observa a beleza simples do quotidiano local.
Foi assim que, no final da nossa visita, acabámos por descobrir a verdadeira alma de Chaves, uma cidade que combina história, tradição e beleza natural de forma única. A mistura de cultura, gastronomia e a autenticidade das suas ruas tornou esta visita não apenas um passeio, mas uma verdadeira imersão na vida da cidade e nas suas tradições mais profundas.
