Monday ☀️ 10309

The morning melted like butter on toast, warm, thick, and a little too close. I walked my usual loop across the laid-back Luiseninsel in the palace gardens, brushing past branches heavy with early summer. By the water, I stood and sank into a few slow minutes of deep breathing and sharper focus. A lovey-dovey pair of grey herons flapped in, totally unbothered by my presence. I spotted a duck family too, but didn’t bring them along, some overly chatty folks had already claimed the space nearby, and I wasn’t in the mood for morning small talk. Queen Luise’s bust, though, got its seasonal sprucing again. I didn’t leave empty-handed: On the way back i picked a few juicy cherries from the tree by the short canal at the Spree, sweet little trophies of a sticky summer start.

Der Morgen schmolz dahin wie Butter auf Toast, warm, dicht und etwas zu nah. Ich drehte meine entspannte Runde über die Luiseninsel im Schlosspark, vorbei an Zweigen, die vom Frühsommer schwer hingen. Am Wasser stand ich dann, atmete tief durch und sammelte Fokus. Ein turtelndes Graureiherpaar flatterte heran, ganz ungestört von meiner Anwesenheit. Eine Entenfamilie sah ich auch, brachte sie aber nicht mit, ein paar zu gesprächige Leute hatten die Raum schon in Beschlag genommen, und ich war nicht in Plauderlaune. Die Büste der Königin Luise war mal wieder dekoriert. Ganz leer kam ich trotzdem nicht zurück: Ein paar saftige Kirschen vom Baum am kleinen Stichkanal an der Spree habe ich mitgebracht, süße Trophäen eines klebrigen Sommerstarts.
