A few days in Kołobrzeg

Is it a good idea to go to the Polish seaside at the turn of winter and spring? I don't know, I've never been before, so this year I decided to find out. We chose Kołobrzeg as our destination because we've visited the Tri-City several times, but Kołobrzeg never has, and it was also conveniently accessible by train. During our stay in this seaside city, we managed to visit a few really interesting places. The best was definitely the Co-Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It's a Gothic, five-nave church with high vaults. Its exceptionally high towers can be seen from almost every place in Kołobrzeg. Unfortunately, the interior doesn't really convey the majesty of the centuries, because the turmoil of World War II severely decimated the once rich furnishings.

Czy to dobry pomysł, aby jechać na przełomie zimy i wiosny nad polskie morze? Nie wiem, Nigdy wcześniej nie byłem, dlatego w tym roku postanowiłem się o tym przekonać. Jako cel wybraliśmy Kołobrzeg a to z tego powodu, że Trójmiasto odwiedziliśmy już kilka razy, a Kołobrzeg nigdy, i poza tym był tam dogodny dojazd pociągiem.
Podczas pobytu w tym nadmorskim mieście, udało nam się zwiedzić kilka naprawdę ciekawych miejsc. Zdecydowanie najlepsza była Bazylika konkatedralna Wniebowzięcia najświętszej Marii Panny. To gotycka, pięcionawowa świątynia z wysokimi sklepieniami. Jej wyjątkowo wysokie wieże widać chyba z każdego miejsca w Kołobrzegu. We wnętrzu niestety nie za bardzo czuć majestat wieków, bo zawirowania z okresu II wojny światowej mocno przetrzebiły niegdyś bogate wyposażenie.

Another attraction of Koszalin is the lighthouse located near the port. It is 26 meters high, but because it is built on a small hill, the height at which the beam of light is 36 meters above sea level. The lighthouse that we can currently admire is the result of post-war reconstruction, because the previous lighthouse was blown up by German sappers withdrawing from the city. Once you are under the lighthouse, it would be a sin not to take a walk east along the promenade. The long, comfortable route along the sea, even outside the summer season, was full of people, bicycles and scooters. The promenade ends at the Kołobrzeg pier, which extends over 200 meters into the sea. Beyond the pier, going further east, there are definitely fewer people, but that does not mean it is not worth going there. When we reach the borders of Koszalin, it turns out that the Eastern Ecopark begins there, a nature reserve that is an incredibly contrasting place. Just outside the city there is a forest with numerous marshes and backwaters, full of rare plants such as yellow water lily, white water lilies, round-leaved sundew, salt aster and animals such as grebe, bittern, cormorant, sandpiper and heron.

My first trip to Kołobrzeg in my life and here is such a positive surprise. Something tells me that in the future, instead of the Tri-City, I will be more attracted to this side of the Baltic Sea.

Kolejne atrakcje Koszalina to latarnia morska położona nieopodal portu. Jej wysokość to 26 metrów, ale z faktu, że zbudowana jest na małym wzniesieniu, wysokość na jakiej znajduje się snop światła to 36 metrów nad poziomem morza. Latarnia która możemy obecnie podziwiać to efekt powojennej odbudowy, ponieważ poprzednią latarnie morską wysadzili niemieccy saperzy wycofujący się z miasta. Jak jest się już pod latarnią, to grzechem byłoby nie przejść się w kierunku wschodnim po promenadzie. Długa wygodna trasa wzdłuż morza, nawet poza sezonem letnim pełna była ludzi, rowerów i hulajnóg. Promenada kończy się na Kołobrzeskim molo, które wysuwa się na ponad 200 metrów w morze. Za molo idąc dalej w kierunku wschodnim jest już zdecydowanie mniej osób, ale to nie znaczy że nie warto tam iść. Gdy dochodzimy do granic miasta Koszalin okazuje się, że zaczyna się tam Ekopark Wschodni, czyli rezerwat przyrody, który jest niesamowicie kontrastującym miejscem. Tuż za miastem znajduje się las z licznymi rozlewiskami bagniskami pełny jest on rzadkich roślin takich jak grążel żółty, grzybienie białe, rosiczka okrągłolistna, aster solny oraz zwierząt takich jak perkoz, bąk, kormoran, brodziec czy czapla.
Pierwszy wyjazd w Życiu do Kołobrzegu a tu takie pozytywne zaskoczenie. Cos mi mówi, że w przyszłości zamiast do trójmiasta, bardziej będzie mnie przyciągała właśnie ta strona Bałtyku.
