Athens again... A walk and photo session near Hadrian's Arch. // #TheLongestTrip

When I first visited Athens a month ago, I thought I would like to live here for a few days!
To walk through the ancient streets, without rushing to catch the last bus, to be in time to the city where I live. It would be so cool to walk the streets of Athens at night! That's what I thought! And God heard my thoughts :)

It so happened that before flying to Dubrovnik, we did return to Athens, where we had a flight from. And they lived there for 4 days. So the day came on July 6, when we boarded the train that took us to Athens. My girls love taking the train more than the bus so everyone was happy. I thought about how much my life had changed in the last four months. This bracelet on my hand, which was given to me by three dear people, always reminds me of this. Three beads on a silver chain: each from a different person. My two daughters are always with me, but the third bead is a memory of a dear person with whom our paths suddenly diverged...

But I move forward with faith into the unknown future. My #thelongesttrip is like my life, which has had so many changes in recent years, like the countries I change so rapidly...
We arrived in Athens and the first picture that made me smile was a respectable lady feeding cats who are feeling content :)

We included the route to our apartments in Google Maps and walked the streets of modern Athens.
How different they are from the old city we saw near the Acropolis. High-rise buildings are characterized by wide balconies, closed from the scorching sun. And there are many flower pots on the balconies. It seems that the Greeks live on their balconies for most of their lives, hiding from the heat as if in gardens. Apparently, in this way they can survive the hot summer.

Finally we arrived at our house. I always take pictures of my little backpackers unlocking the code and getting the key when we have to check in on our own. This is a very interesting airbnb practice.

The apartments turned out to be great! I will write about this apartment next time. So, we took a shower, drank coffee and after 18 hours went to explore our area. Also look for a supermarket to buy groceries.

Finally, it's time to put on your dresses and walk the streets of the capital of Greece! On our way there were many houses with green balconies. The heat continued, and the children wanted ice cream. By the way, Greece has really great fruit ice cream. And a selfie with ice cream is already a tradition :)

Do you love the feeling when you walk through an unfamiliar city for the first time and you like it here. Every time it's like a new love! You see houses, shops with decorations, cafes with tables and flowers. Your eyes photograph all this and you enjoy this new page of your life. These new moments that remain beautiful emotions in your soul!

After a walk through the modern streets, we discovered that our accommodation is a 15-minute walk from the Acropolis. So, our dream has come true and we will be able to go for a long walk tomorrow, listening to the music of street musicians and enjoying the atmosphere of the evening city!

And at the end of our walk, we took some photos against the background of the famous Hadrian's Arch, feeling like characters from Greek mythology.

Each architectural structure of Athens has a rich history. However, some of these structures were erected as a result of individual events in the history of the country. A striking example of such an architectural monument is Hadrian's Arch. According to legend, it was erected in honor of the visit to Athens by the emperor of Rome - Hadrian. In defense of this legend is its location - the old road connecting the center of Athens and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

That's a fine journey.
It's not just a walk around the city.
I had plans to visit Greece, to see the cradle of civilization. But now I don't even know when it might happen.

Lovely pictures, and great descriptions. My partner and I are going to move over to the Peloponnese from the UK in the next couple of months, and I can't wait!

Hi Olga, depends on how it goes, initially going for a 2 year residence/work permit, if we like life there we'll aim to make it permanent. I've been learning Greek for the last 9 months in preparation but it's slow going!

Indeed, I also noticed that people spending their time in balconies, which had umbrella or sunshades.

I took many photos under the Arch of Hadrian, but in daylight :)
