Cape Kiwanda - Part 2: Exploring The Cape & Full Sunshine Arrives
Here is part two of my recent trip to the Oregon Coast and my exploration of Cape Kiwanda. Part 1 covered our arrival, a short hike up some dunes near the beach house, and exploration under the cape of some tidal pools. In this segment I will take a short hike out to an overlook on the end of the cape and share some full afternoon sunshine shots of the beach, cape and dunes. So follow along for a visual spectacle! 😀

Returning from the tide pool journey it's now time to tackle a hike up the sand dune!
Okay, I won't be going up to the top of this dune like the person you see coming down in the middle of the picture. I'll be heading off to the left following those other two people for a much less steep jaunt out to a viewpoint on the end of the cape. 😃
After a two steps forward one step back ascent through part of the sand dune I'm now on more stable ground. Well, sort of. As the sign and fencing indicate this area is to be respected when hiking around.
A look at the top of the dune that I won't be summiting today. lol.
My first views of the ocean as I continue on the viewpoint.
The protective fencing starts to narrow as I approach my destination at the end of those tress ahead.
Chief Kiwanda Rock, about a half mile offshore, is visible as I head down the stairs to the viewpoint.
I stop to admire some wildflowers as I head down the steps.
Reaching the viewpoint I take a look north up the coast toward Cape Lookout. Another area of amazing beauty on the Oregon Coast.
A look below at the surf as it crashes into the rocks at the end of the cape. A short video below with the sights and sounds.

As I turn to leave the viewpoint I see two hikers trudging to the summit of the dune.
Luckily this trees root system has found anchors even though most of the ground under the tree has washed away. Truly remarkable how life finds a way.
As promised to close things out a few shots of the beach and cape in full afternoon sunshine.
Gray days at the Oregon Coast are just fine and the scenery is still wonderful but there is just something magical about cloudless day with abundant sunshine at the beach.
There was a bit of wind though and I spied some paragliders on the back side of the dune doing a little sailing.

The beach video looks spectacular, I love it,
I can make a signal in the First context of the YouTube video?
I'm glad you liked it! :)
I'm not exactly familiar with what "make a signal" is, but yes go ahead. Let me know more information about it if you can. Thanks! :)
@oldmans Hi, every time I interact via first context I send a signal; it's a beta project that involves bringing in content and interacting with it from Web 2.0.
I've already brought your YouTube content to Hive so others can interact with it, but the project is still in beta and is being introduced.
Discuss on First Context
Cool! Thanks for the info. I will have to look into it a bit later on. 👍
Fantastic photography stuff @oldmans friend, great post, thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much! I appreciate the HM. :)
That's absolutely incredible and very surreal landscape. I like the windswept look of the trees. They're similar to the ones that grow here at the edge of the ocean on Vancouver island.
Yeah, those ocean front trees definitely have a look to them.
This one looks like it's grabbing for any foot hold it can find. :)

it's so interesting that trees grow on the sand dunes
Yeah, those trees on the coast find a way to cling to life through some pretty harsh conditions.
