Cape Kiwanda - Part 1: Sand Dunes & Tidal Pools
It had been a few years, but we finally got a chance to get back to the Oregon Coast. Pacific City is where we chose to spend a few days and our choice turned out to be a good one. I had passed by this area a few times over the years but never really took the time to explore. So join us as I share a few of the images and thoughts from our time in Pacific City.

We arrived later in the afternoon to a fairly gray day. Not an uncommon occurrence on the Oregon Coast. But with a much better forecast for the next day in store, we did some quick touristy stuff before finding and checking into our beach house.
A view of Chief Kiwanda Rock and its somewhat dramatic arch on the right side.
A look at Cape Kiwanda...
And the large sand dune behind it. Underneath the cape are some tide pools. Tomorrow I will be exploring more of those areas.
The next morning we left the beach house and took a short walk to a boardwalk that led to the top of a dune overlooking the ocean.
A lot of effort went into this boardwalk to provide the residents of this little community with an amazing view from the top of this dune covered in beach grass.
It was a journey well worth taking though as Chief Kiwanda Rock comes into view at the top.
Looking to the right Cape Kiwanda and the massive dune loom in the distance. You can also see the clouds are beginning to break up and blue sky is visible. So exciting! 😍

A short video of the view from the top of the dune.
Back on the beach, and with a low tide it's time to explore the tide pool area.
The tide pools are tucked away under the cliffs of the cape.
The abundance of nooks and crannies in the rocks provide a great environment for the sea creatures.
After a bit of a walk out toward the end of the cape the sea life begins to become apparent.
Not sure what I expected but the size and girth of these Starfish kind of surprised me.
Some sea anemones.
Two small crabs with their backs against the rock keep an eye on me as I pass by. 🙂
As I hit the end of the road for my tide pool exploration I spy a surfer reflecting on his chances of catching the big one out beyond the rocks.
And lastly a small arch along the cliff side as I make my way back to the beach.
Well that's it for this installment of my trip to Pacific City and Cape Kiwanda. Make sure to check back for part 2 when I explore the view point at the end of the cape and beautiful sunshine finally arrives at the beach. 😀

What an amazing landscape, my friend! Wild and unique. I loved every photo, but the one of the marine ecosystem and the ones of the rocks were my favorites. Without a doubt, it's a place that makes you want to visit. Cheers!
That was my first time trying to photograph some tide pools. Definitely look forward to returning and finding some more areas like that to photograph. :)
I always thought the sea life is one of the most interesting environments, despite water being my biggest fear. And wow, you got to admire plenty of that!! Never got to see so close some of these species other than in an aquarium.
It is definitely a bountiful and colorful environment. I was a little surprised some of the Starfish were out on the sand and rocks and not in tidal pools. I guess I have a lot to learn about the tidal ecosystem. :)
It's a beautiful beach. There's nobody around; it looks quiet and peaceful. The rocks clinging to the sand and the colorful objects on them bring out the simplicity and beauty of the surrounding sand. You've captured the arched rocks perfectly in the framing. These are some of the most beautiful beach photos I've ever seen.
This is a little less visited area of the Oregon Coast. Of course as we get further into summer that is bound to change somewhat. You are right though, we timed it right and the ability to find a quiet place to interact with nature was prevalent.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed my photos! 🙏
Wow! Such beautiful creatures! I truly believe the sea is one of the richest ecosystems worth experiencing. There’s something magical about the ocean that always reminds us how vast and alive our world is.
I agree completely! There is so much life in the ocean, some we probably don't even know about yet. I was struck by the diversity of shapes and of course how colorful they were.
Those sea living creatures are visible when it became low tide. You are lucky to see them, and they are one of the best to witness.
I had never been this close to them in person before. Something I hope to experience again. :)

We are already looking forward to reading more about your adventures!
Wow! that was a very beautiful beach. It has abundant mussels and star fish. It seems the place is not being visit .
As summer gets going and more vacationers hit the road it will pick up a bit. It is a lesser known area on the Oregon Coast though so the crowds should stay manageable.
It does seem to be a very vibrant and thriving ecosystem.
Stunning photos!
Thank you so much for sharing them, @oldmans
You're welcome, and thank you @emiliorios for stopping by. 😀
👍
The pacific northwest has some impressive scenery, but it's not so well known as beach kind of place. I think this is the first time I see photos of this region.
I like how the landscape here has a softness about it like it's been airbrushed.
Both Oregon and some of Washington can have long stretches of beach followed by rocky, mountainous areas that drop into the sea. Really quite stunning to drive the coastlines.
I think the morning light fog/mist adds to that airbrushed feeling.
Very nice post @oldmans 😍🤩👏!!
The Oregon coast has excellent panoramic, natural, and beautiful views. You chose great photographic shots of the place; personally, I loved it. I hope to see more parts and learn more about the Pacific.
You know, I live on the island of Cuba 🇨🇺 and I didn't know this type of starfish. I had to turn to Google—they are really beautiful, called 'Pisaster,' and they are common to that coast. The marine life there is very abundant.
Greetings, thanks for showing us, and happy weekend!! 😊☺️🙏
Thank you @ibarra95, I'm glad you liked it.
Yeah, the Oregon Coast is a mix of long sandy beaches broken up by rocky headlands. Makes for some wonderful photographic opportunities.
Good to know about the starfish. That was my first time being so close to them.
I appreciate you stopping by and a wonderful weekend to you also! :)
The Mirror and the Stone
The Reflection That Cannot Be Denied
Take a look in the mirror.
Not the mirror of vanity, but the mirror of truth—the one that shows not the face you wear for the world, but the hands you used to shape it.
Every action you have taken, every vote you have cast, every voice you have silenced or lifted—these are not whispers in the wind. They are fingerprints pressed into wet clay, and the clay has hardened. You cannot unmake the impression. You cannot smooth the surface and pretend the hand was never there.
The Permanence of the Carved
When what you do is done on a blockchain, it is not written in ink. It is not stored in a drawer that can be locked, lost, or burned.
It is carved in stone.
Cryptographic stone. Immutable. Public. Eternal.
The blockchain does not care about your apologies. It does not soften with time. It does not accept revision. It holds the exact weight of every choice, preserved in the architecture of mathematics itself. Long after you have forgotten what you did, the ledger will remember. Long after you have told yourself a better story, the hash will tell the true one.
The Courage of Facing
So, look in the mirror.
See what is there. Not what you wish were there. Not what your allies tell you is there. But what the stone records.
You cannot take back what you have done. That door is closed. That block is sealed. That truth is permanent.
But you can still decide what you carve next.
For the stone remembers everything. The only question is whether you will finally read what it says.
