Monochrome Monday Living Life in Color - and Black and White
I have always believed that monochrome changes the “feel” of a photograph. In very real terms black and white photography often can change a photo to bring out the grittiness or add an element of spookiness or mystery. In addition, for this series I think monochrome can bring out a sense of solemnness.
We recently took a trip to Blacksburg, Virginia in order to check out Ben's soon to be new home: the campus at Virginia Tech. One of the prominent features along a massive green space called the Drillfield Is a structure known as the Pylons and War Memorial.
Quoting from the Virginia Tech website: vt.edu
One of the most important and symbolic structures on campus, The Pylons above War Memorial Chapel bear the names of every Virginia Tech student and graduate who died defending our nation’s freedom, beginning with those lost during World War I.
The Pylons evoke Virginia Tech’s core values. From left to right, they represent Brotherhood, Honor, Leadership, Sacrifice, Service, Loyalty, Duty, and Ut Prosim.
Do you like Black and White photography? Do you like Colour photography? If you answered yes to both questions, then you are a perfect candidate for the “Colour / Black & White” photography community started and run by @daveks
In 1896, the university adopted Ut Prosim, Latin for "That I May Serve," as its motto.
You can see "That I May Serve" carved in the steps.
At the memorial’s center, the cenotaph displays the names of Virginia Tech’s seven Medal of Honor recipients.
