Having Some Sepia Saturday Fun!
This is Drayton Hall Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. It is thought to have been built around the 1750s! Below is a sepia version that I enthusiastically altered. Further below there is a set of photos taken in the 1800's that show it how it was much earlier.
I am a fan of sepia! I enjoy taking a modern photo and playing around with it digitally in order to make it take on an old timey feel.
I am the first to admit I usually get a little heavy handed on the effects and get an image that is perhaps over the top in manipulation. But alas, is that not where the fun is???
Visiting such public displays of opulence reaffirms my view that mankind has not really evolved much mentally since the antebellum times. Is it much different than the modern jet set celebrities flying their Gulfstreams around here and there while lecturing us of lesser means to be vigilant of our use of fossil fuels and to be ever mindful of our need for the conservation of energy!
Now below I have included a few bonus photos that were taken in the late 19th century. (Not by me by the way... Even I am not THAT old!
They are a bit dated looking, but I like to go way overboard on my digital mock-ups!
That sturdy brick building almost looks un-natural sitting out there all alone. That is very old to have survived all this time.
Indeed and all of the bricks were made on site as with most of the plantations. However some of the other buildings were not of brick and fell victim to hurricanes.
