Very nice pictures and people. I would be curious to know more aabout this tradition. I lived in Ivory Coast and I saw this kind of thing in Burkina Faso. Is it the same culture?

Well, this tradition is based on family lineage.
To distinguish some families from others or to know where they are from, you can easily identify them with their types of marks. The one you saw at Burkina Faso must be for a tribe and a family which differs from other families in the same tribe or place
