Sicilia - three lost places that you should visit (ENG/GER)

Hello dear Pinmapple community and travel lovers,

I have been reading your great travel reports and tips on what to eat or visit all over the world for many weeks now.

I am also an absolute travel fan, although my fear of flying sometimes limits me a bit. But recently I overcame my fear and did an extensive round trip in Sicily. In addition to the classic sights, I also visited some "lost places". Three particularly impressive places I will present to you in this post. Especially the last place is hard to reach and from my point of view the most worthwhile.

Natural thermal spa of Segesta

In the northwestern part of the island I visited the "Natural Hot Springs of Segesta". These are natural hot springs. These offer a water temperature of over 40 degrees, which is really wonderful and should have a healing effect. The slight smell of sulfur is not noticed after a short time and you can enjoy the spa to the fullest.

How to reach the hot spring?

It is not easy to get to the spring, but this means that you are often undisturbed on site and can enjoy the great nature. The best way to get there is to park near the Segestan thermal baths, for which a fee is charged. From there you go down a small dirt road.

After a walk of about five minutes you will reach a small stream, on the other side of which trees block your view. Everything looks like a dead end. But in reality you are only a few meters away from the hot spring. Cross the stream and the bush behind it and you're right there. Both is very easy! Just be careful not to slip on the stones in the creek and walk a bit carefully.

The great nature invites not only for bathing but also for extensive sunbathing. As if nature had intended it that way, the spring is bordered by smooth rocks that are perfect for sunbathing.

Moreover, the spring is very clean. If you visit it, please do your part to keep it that way. It would be a shame to see such a natural wonder polluted.

The Pool of Venus

Almost at the northernmost point of the island you will find the "Pool of Venus" at the very end of a nature reserve. Over many thousands of years the waves have carved a kind of pool into the rock face here, which is perfect for swimming or for cool social media posts.

The Pool of Venus is much easier to reach than the other two places. You can park at the Arca del Sud restaurant and walk into the nature reserve from there at any time of day.

On the way to the pool you walk along an impressive cliff, which alone would be worth a visit.

At the beginning it is a bit uphill and you should wear sturdy shoes.

After you reach the highest point of the cliff, you will have a beautiful view over the coast and the nature connected with it.

Directly after this the descent begins. This looks steeper on the pictures than it is. From the highest point of the cliff to the pool of Venus it is another good five minutes.

Already from some distance you can see the target and one of its special features. The water of the pool is absolutely clear and you can see the bottom everywhere. As a result, you can observe a lot of fish in this area.

Arriving at the pool of Venus, you quickly notice that the surrounding area and the bottom consists of many individual and slippery stones. You should definitely pack swimming slippers or even better swimming shoes.

The pool is between 1m and 1,70m deep. Therefore it is also very suitable for families. The pool is completely enclosed by the rocks and there is no danger of getting into the open sea. Only the slippery stones have to be taken care of.

If you should explore the other side of the rocks like me, please be careful! The water is much cooler there and the swell pushes strongly against the rocks, so you can easily hurt yourself underwater.

Waterfall Cascate Cataolo

The waterfall "Cascate Cataolo" is a real paradise for every little adventurer. It is also located north on the island but a good distance from the coast. To the waterfall once belonged a tourist center, which was closed a few years ago. You should definitely take something to eat. The best is sandwiches. In the article I tell you why.

With the closing of the center, the maintenance of the paths was also stopped and nature conquered its territory back. This gives the waterfall and the surrounding area but a great untouched charm.

If you visit the waterfall, you should not drive up to the dilapidated tourist center, but park already at the beginning of the road.

Because the original road is hardly recognizable as such.

The path to the waterfall eventually ends at a rocky stream, which is absolutely clear. In order for you to reach the waterfall, you must go against the current in the stream.

At the base of the waterfall, there is a huge rock in the middle of the water. This one is easy to climb and invites for a perfect picnic. Therefore, we took sandwiches with us for this. On the rock you can hear and see animals, as well as the rushing of the waterfall. Since this point is no longer easy to reach, you are here to 99% alone.

ich lese schon seit vielen Wochen Eure tollen Reiseberichte und Tipps was man überall auf der Welt essen oder besichtigen sollte.

Auch ich bin ein absoluter Reisefan, obwohl mich meine Flugangst manchmal etwas einschränkt. Doch vor kurzem habe ich meine Angst überwunden und eine ausgiebige Rundreise auf Sizilien unternommen. Neben den klassischen Sehenswürdigkeiten habe ich auch einige "Lost Places" besichtigt. Drei besonders eindrucksvolle Plätze werde ich Euch in diesem Beitrag vorstellen. Besonders der letzte Ort ist kaum zu erreichen und lohnt sich aus meiner Sicht am meisten.

Natürliche Therme von Segesta

Im nordwestlichen Teil der Insel habe ich den "Natürliche Therme von Segesta" besucht. Dabei handelt es sich um natürliche heiße Quellen. Diese bieten eine Wassertemperatur von über 40 Grad, welche wirklich herrlich ist und eine heilende Wirkung haben sollen. Den leichten Schwefelgeruch nimmt man dabei schon nach kurzer Zeit nicht mehr wahr und kann dann den Spa in vollen Zügen genießen.

Wie erreicht man die heiße Quelle?

Die Anreise zu der Quelle ist nicht ganz einfach, aber dadurch ist man Vorort oft ungestört und kann die tolle Natur genießen. Am besten parkt Ihr in der Nähe der kostenpflichtigen Therme Segestan. Von dort aus geht Ihr einen kleinen Feldweg herunter.

Nach einem Fußweg von ungefähr fünf Minuten erreicht Ihr einen kleinen Bach, auf dessen anderer Seite Euch Bäume den Blick versperren. Alles sieht nach einer Sackgasse aus. Doch in Wirklichkeit seid Ihr nur noch von wenige Meter von der heißen Quelle entfernt. Durchquert den Bach und den dahinter liegenden Busch und Ihr seid direkt da. Beides geht sehr einfach! Passt einfach auf, dass ihr auf den Steinen im Bach nicht ausrutscht und geht ein wenig vorsichtig.

Die tolle Natur lädt neben dem Baden auch zu einen ausgiebigen Sonnenbad ein. Als hätte es die Natur so vorgesehen, ist die Quelle von glatten Felsen eingefasst, die sich perfekt als Liegefläche eignen.

Außerdem ist die Quelle sehr sauber. Falls ihr sie besuchen solltet, bitte ich euch euren Beitrag dafür zu leisten, dass dies auch so bleibt. Es wäre einfach schade, wenn so ein Naturwunder verschmutzt wird.

Der Pool der Venus

Fast am nördlichsten Punkt der Insel findet Ihr ganz am Ende eines Naturschutzgebietes den "Pool der Venus". Über viele tausend Jahre haben hier die Wellen eine Art Pool in die Felswand gearbeitet, welcher sich perfekt zum Schwimmen oder für coole Social Media Beiträge eignet.

Der Pool der Venus ist dabei viel einfacher zu erreichen, als die anderen beiden Orte. Ihr könnt am Restaurant Arca del Sud parken und von dort zu jeder Tageszeit in das Naturschutzgebiet gehen.

Auf dem Weg zum Pool geht Ihr an einer beeindruckenden Steilklippe entlang, welche alleine schon einen Besuch wert wäre.

Anfangs geht es dabei ein ordentliches Stück bergauf und ihr solltet am besten festes Schuhwerk tragen.

Nachdem Ihr den höchsten Punkt der Klippe erreicht habt, habt ihr einen wunderschönen Blick über die Küste und die damit verbundene Natur.

Direkt im Anschluss beginnt der Abstieg. Dieser sieht auf den Bildern steiler aus als er ist. Vom höchsten Punkt der Klippe bis zum Pool der Venus sind es nochmal gute fünf Minuten.

Bereits aus einiger Entfernung kann man das Ziel und eine seiner besonderen Eigenschaften erkennen. Das Wasser des Pools ist absolut klar und man kann überall den Grund sehen. Dadurch könnt ihr in diesem Gebiet sehr viele Fische beobachten.

Am Pool der Venus angekommen stellt man schnell fest, dass die Umgebung und der Grund aus vielen einzelnen und rutschigen Steinen besteht. Ihr solltet Euch unbedingt Badelatschen oder noch besser Schwimmschuhe einpacken.

Der Pool ist zwischen 1m und 1,70m tief. Daher ist er auch sehr gut für Familien geeignet. Der Pool ist dabei komplett von den Felsen umschlossen und es besteht keine Gefahr ins offene Meer zu geraten. Lediglich die rutschigen Steine müssen beachtet werden.

Solltet Ihr wie ich auch die andere Seite der Felsen erkunden, dann seid bitte vorsichtig! Das Wasser ist dort deutlich kühler und der Wellengang drückt stark gegen die Felsen, wodurch man sich unter Wasser leicht verletzen kann.

Wasserfall Cascate Cataolo

Der Wasserfall "Cascate Cataolo" ist für jeden kleinen Abenteurer ein wahres Paradies. Er liegt ebenfalls nördlich auf der Insel ist aber ein gutes Stück von der Küste entfernt. Zum Wasserfall gehörte mal ein Touristen Center, welches aber bereits vor einigen Jahren geschlossen wurde. Ihr solltet Euch auf jeden Fall etwas zum Essen mitnehmen. Am besten belegte Brötchen. Im Beitrag verrate ich Euch warum.

Mit dem schließen des Centers, wurde auch die Pflege der Wege eingestellt und die Natur eroberte sich ihr Gebiet zurück. Dadurch erhält der Wasserfall und das umliegende Gebiet aber einen tollen unberührten Charme.

Wenn Ihr den Wasserfall besucht, solltet ihr nicht bis zum verfallenen Touristen Center fahren, sondern schon am Beginn der Straße parken.

Denn die ursprüngliche Straße ist kaum noch als solche zu erkennen.

Der Weg zum Wasserfall endet irgendwann an einem steinigen Bach, welcher absolut klar ist. Damit Ihr den Wasserfall erreicht, müsst Ihr in dem Bach gegen den Strom gehen.

Am Fuße des Wasserfalls befindet sich mitten im Wasser ein riesiger Felsen. Dieser ist leicht zu besteigen und lädt zu einem perfekten Picknick ein. Daher haben wir uns hierfür belegte Baguettes mitgenommen. Auf dem Felsen hört und seht Ihr Tiere, sowie das rauschen des Wasserfalls. Da dieser Punkt mittlerweile nicht mehr einfach zu erreichen ist seid Ihr hier zu 99 % alleine.
