Now it seems there's nowhere in North America that isn't tainted, phony, doomed.

Try the south shore of Nova Scotia. This area seems locked in another time where people greet each other and the pace is laid back and easy. Have spent most of the summer sailing along this special coast and its special peoples. My boat seems to have carried me back in time.
