On the outskirts of the second oldest cemetery. | En las afueras del segundo cementerio más antiguo.

Sigue sigo recorriendo los lugares de historia en la ciudad de Maracaibo y esta vez fue la oportunidad del panteón que lleva por nombre, "El Redondo", debido a su forma circular es el segundo más antiguo del estado Zulia, y se encuentra localizado justamente en toda la avenida principal de las Delicias, realicé este recorrido con mi hermano, estaba dando esperando que nos pudieran dejar ingresar hacia la parte interior del lugar, pero debíamos esperar al economo, encargado y en verdad, estabamos sobre reloj y sentía que iba a perder tiempo si lo esperaba en el interior de este lugar, se encuentran enterrado varios personajes emblemáticos de la ciudad.

I’m still exploring the city of Maracaibo’s historic sites, and this time I visited the cemetery known as ‘El Redondo’ so called because of its circular shape. It is the second oldest in Zulia state and is situated right on the main avenue in Las Delicias. I went on this tour with my brother; we were waiting to be allowed into the inner part of the cemetery, but we had to wait for the treasurer, who is in charge. To be honest, we were pressed for time and I felt I’d be wasting time waiting for him inside the cemetery, where several of the city’s most iconic figures are buried.

Bien este lugar durante el siglo pasado era considerado como el panteón de los trabajadores petroleros, ya que las famosas empresas europeas que residían en esta ciudad y le daban vida a la industria petrolera, tenía panteones para cada uno de sus trabajadores, así como también, eran empresas americanas en este tiempo según la historia morían, mucha las personas debido a que las condiciones, no eran las ideales y es por eso que en su interior podemos apreciar según la historia de que estos se encuentran, así como también, es un cementerio netamente privado quién actualidad no posee bóvedas a la venta porque son parte del patrimonio de las personas que son enterradas allí las que tienen sus tumbas desde hace mucho tiempo.

Well, during the last century this place was regarded as the cemetery for oil workers, as the famous European companies based in this city which were the lifeblood of the oil industry had cemeteries for each of their workers. Furthermore, according to history, many people from American companies working here at the time also died, many people died due to working conditions that were far from ideal. That is why, as history tells us, we can see their graves here. It is also a strictly private cemetery which currently has no burial vaults for sale, as they form part of the heritage of the people buried there, who have had their graves for a very long time.

De los personajes históricos de nuestra ciudad, podemos encontrar a Juan bessón, un gran historiador que fue el escritor del primer libro de historia del estado Zulia muy recordado reconocido en la localidad, también podemos encontrar enterrado Armando Molero, conocido como el cautador de todos los tiempos, ya que era un gaitero, demasiado conocido en ese tiempo por ver, compuesto varias gaitas insignes de la ciudad así como también el gran arquitecto ingeniero belga Jerónime Joet, quién quién fue el responsable de edificar muchas obras de gran importancia para la ciudad gran contribuidor en el desarrollo arquitectónico de la ciudad, entre ellos el más reconocido el teatro Baralt.

Among the historical figures of our city, we find Juan Bessón, a great historian who wrote the first history book on the state of Zulia and is well remembered and highly regarded locally. We also find Armando Molero buried here, known as the ‘greatest bagpiper of all time’, as he was a bagpiper who was extremely well known in his day for having he composed several of the city’s most famous bagpipe tunes. Also buried here is the great Belgian architect and engineer Jerónime Joet, who was responsible for constructing many buildings of great importance to the city and made a major contribution to its architectural development, the most famous of which is the Baralt Theatre.

A pesar de que no puedes visitar su interior me gustó mucho la arquitectura, que posee su fachada de frente que podemos ver este estilo bastante Art Deco, en la cual, en su parte superior, podemos apreciar cómo se encuentran una antorcha con una paloma haciendo referencia a que este es un campo santo, este lugar se encuentra en excelente mantenimiento, ya que debido a que es un lugar y que es patrimonio de la localidad debe estar en muy bien estado porque anteriormente era un lugar que se encontraba completamente en estado de abandonó.

Although you cannot visit the interior, I really liked the architecture; its façade clearly displays a distinct Art Deco style, and at the top you can see a torch and a dove, signifying that this is a cemetery. This site is very well maintained; as it is a local heritage site, it must be kept in excellent condition, particularly as it was previously completely derelict.
