Justamente en toda la avenida principal de San Francisco podemos encontrar curiosamente un hombre que este se encuentra tocando tambor, pero no es solamente un hombre es una representación cultural de la tradición de los tambores en honor a San Benito el santo negro mejor conocido como chinblangueros, son estos hombres hombres qué rinden un culto especial a este santo y tocan los tambores con diversos sonidos los cuales tienen distintos significados esta plaza es un tributo especial a Juan de Dios Martínez, un hombre afrovenezolano que defendió esta hermosa tradición y es por eso que está plaza es un tributo a él.

Curiously enough, right along San Francisco’s main avenue, we can find a man playing the drum; but he is not just any man – he is a cultural representation of the drumming tradition in honour of San Benito, the Black Saint, better known as the ‘chinblangueros’. These men pay special homage to this saint and play the drums with a variety of sounds, each of which has a different meaning. This square is a special tribute to Juan de Dios Martínez, an Afro-Venezuelan man who championed this beautiful tradition, which is why the square is named in his honour.

Es una plaza caminería justamente ubicada en esta avenida fuente principal de comercio, está situada diagonal a la fábrica de cemento un punto muy estratégico lleno de mucho comercio, ahora bien el lugar se encuentra en excelenta mantenimiento y muy bien cuidado lo único malo que puedo ver de este lugar es que no tiene una placa informativa, que narre y explique la vida de este hombre así como también tiene ausencia completamente de bancas, por lo que solamente puedes caminar por ahí más no sentarte.

It is a square situated right on this avenue, the main commercial hub; it is located diagonally opposite the cement factory – a very strategic spot teeming with shops. that said, the site is in excellent condition and very well maintained; the only downside I can see is that it lacks an information plaque detailing this man’s life, and there are no benches at all, so you can only walk around but not sit down.

Y bueno esta tradición cultural de los chimbangles forma parte del patrimonio cultural de Venezuela así como Patrimonio de la Humanidad, estás una tradición qué vino desde África hice arraigó al sur del Lago de Maracaibo debido a la gran cantidad de afrodescendientes que habitaban en el lugar Juan de Dios Martínez, era un hombre Afrozuliano que nació en este lugar se dedicó toda su vida a dar a conocer y enaltecer esta gran cultura tradicional así como también poder estudiar cada uno De los diversos toques del tambor, también se dedicó mucho a investigar todo lo proveniente a esta cultura.

Well, this cultural tradition of the chimbangles forms part of Venezuela’s cultural heritage as well as being a World Heritage Site. It is a tradition that originated in Africa and took root in the south of Lake Maracaibo due to the large number of people of African descent living in the area. Juan de Dios Martínez, was an Afro-Zulian man who was born here and devoted his entire life to raising awareness of and celebrating this great traditional culture, as well as to studying each of the various drum rhythms; he also devoted a great deal of time to researching everything related to this culture.

No solamente se encuentran aquí en el estado Zulia también en otros estados venezolanos como Trujillo, Táchira, Mérida entre otros más es totalmente característico del toque del tambor, la veneración especial a San Benito el Santo, negro existen también otras corrientes a través del tambor aué busca rendir tributo especial a otras festevidades, pero esta en especial es de la cultura y tradición Zuliana Venezuela es un país multicultural lleno de muchas tradiciones y culturas originarias de muchas partes pero esta particularmente se extiende por muchos estados.

It is not only found here in the state of Zulia, but also in other Venezuelan states such as Trujillo, Táchira and Mérida, amongst others; it is a defining feature of the drumming style – the special veneration of Saint Benedict, the Black Saint. There are also other traditions involving the ‘aué’ drum, which seek to pay special tribute to other festivities, but this one in particular is part of Zulia’s culture and tradition. Venezuela is a multicultural country rich in traditions and cultures originating from many different places, but this one in particular is found across many states.
