Another stroll down Carabobo Street and its history. | Otro paseo por la calle Carabobo y su historia.

Gratos saludos tengan todos mis queridos viajeros de todas partes del mundo, es un placer para mí saludarles en este lindo jueves y mostrarle un lugar lindo e histórico de mi ciudad como lo es la antigua calle de Carabobo.

A warm greeting to all my dear travellers from all over the world. It is a pleasure for me to greet you on this lovely Thursday and show you a beautiful and historic part of my city: the old Calle de Carabobo.

Justamente en todo el casco central centrar e histórico de la ciudad de Maracaibo, se encuentra al lado de la avenida Padilla, la calle de Carabobo, una famosa localidad de nuestra ciudad que alberga gran historias casas coloniales y pintorescas espacios de arte recreación cultura y el escenario perfecto para tomar las mejores fotografías de cualquier tipo, sin duda, alguna Maracaibo y esta calle lo tiene todo para que las personas puedan disfrutar, había tomado el carritos de las Veritas, porque estaba haciendo ciertos trámites hasta que pude llegar, cerca del centro y pase justamente por enfrente de la calle y decidí quedarme para seguir explorando ya que vi que hay nuevos espacios abiertos.

Right in the heart of Maracaibo’s historic city centre, next to Avenida Padilla, lies Calle de Carabobo a famous part of our city that is home to magnificent colonial houses and picturesque spaces dedicated to art, leisure and culture, and is undoubtedly the perfect setting for taking the best photographs of any kind, Maracaibo has it all, and this street offers everything for people to enjoy. I’d taken the ‘Carritos de las Veritas’ minibus because I was running some errands before I could get there. I was near the centre and happened to pass right in front of the street, so I decided to stop and carry on exploring as I saw there were some new open spaces.

Hace más de un año visité, esta calle y la misma estaba totalmente solitaria la mayoría de sus casas cerradas, e incluso una vecina me dijo que la mayoría de las casas se encontraban abandonadas o a la venta podía ver cómo los colores de cada una de estas casas se encontraba totalmente vencidos y viejos, pero realmente me llenó mucho de alegría poder ver qué recientemente fueron pintadas, que permite darle razón a cada uno de esos espacios para el mismo tiempo poder recrearse y no solamente quedarse en lo histórico que pueda ofrecer el lugar, aunque de cierta manera, es el valor que más resalta.

Over a year ago, I visited this street and it was completely deserted; most of the houses were shut up, and a local woman even told me that most of them were either abandoned or up for sale. I could see how the paint on each of these houses was completely faded and worn, but it really filled me with joy to see that they’ve recently been repainted, which gives each of these spaces a new lease of life, allowing people to enjoy them rather than just dwelling on the historical significance the place has to offer – although, in a way, that is what stands out most.

El inicio a esta calle no los da la famosa casa de Udón Pérez, el compositor y creador del himno del estado Zulia, un famoso poeta que a través de sus pensamientos y letras le dio tanto a nuestro estado en esta en esa casa residía y podemos ver que en sus afueras se encuentra plasmado uno de sus más famosos poemas por lo que las personas lo recuerdan, así como también cada estrofa del himno del estado en la actualidad, esta casa es un espacio turístico y artístico donde se realizan presentaciones culturales, así como también corporativas, y hay una cafetería en donde se elabora el café artesanal, en esta calle se pueden encontrar múltiples lugares de gran interés como lo son la plaza tradicional de Zaguan que ya les desarrollé en la publicación anterior.

The start of this street is marked not by the famous house of Udón Pérez the composer and writer of the Zulia state anthem, a renowned poet who, through his thoughts and lyrics, contributed so much to our state – but by the fact that he once lived in this house, and we can see that one of his most famous poems is inscribed on its exterior, which is why people remember him, as well as every verse of the current state anthem. Today, this house is a tourist and cultural venue hosting cultural and corporate events, and there is a café serving artisanal coffee. On this street, you can find many places of great interest, such as the traditional Zaguan square, which I described in my previous post.

A su vez también se encuentra el museo de arte centenario o centro de Rafael Urdaneta que recientemente fue remodelado y recuperado ese espacio que estaba prácticamente abandonado, también podemos encontrar el único museo de artesacro del estado Zulia del obispo Lasso de la Vega que ya también se los he podido compartir por aquí, entre otros lugares más interesantes nocturnos o y familiares, como lo son el Caribe Concert y entre otros también múltiples cafeterías, en donde tú te puedes sentar a disfrutar de los espacios, realmente el ambiente es muy tranquilo y sano.

There is also the Centenary Art Museum, or Rafael Urdaneta Centre, which has recently been refurbished and restored after having been practically abandoned. We can also find the only museum of sacred art in Zulia State, dedicated to Bishop Lasso de la Vega, which I have already told you about here, along with other interesting night-time and family-friendly spots, such as the Caribe Concert and, amongst others, numerous cafés where you can sit back and enjoy the surroundings; the atmosphere is truly very peaceful and wholesome.

El arte en esta calle se expresa en su máximo esplendor, no solo por sus casas coloniales que manifiestan y expresan los múltiples colores que hacen qué lugar sea totalmente auténtico característico, hermoso, pues son sus ventanas estrechas largas de rejillas, así como también con bases circulares, techos de tejas en alturas característicos de esa Maracaibo colonial, que sin duda alguna a pesar de que han sufrido el gran paso de la historia, podemos seguirlos observando totalmente vigente y con su esencia inicial, sin duda, algunas es uno de los lugares favoritos de mi ciudad que me apasiona y encanta visitar.

Art on this street is expressed in all its splendour, not only through its colonial houses, which showcase the myriad colours that make this place so authentically distinctive and beautiful, thanks to its long, narrow latticed windows, as well as the circular bases and high tiled roofs characteristic of colonial Maracaibo. Although they have undoubtedly weathered the passage of time, we can still see them as very much alive and retaining their original essence; without a doubt, this is one of my favourite places in my city, which I am passionate about and love to visit.

Por último, fue un gran recorrido también pude ver a unos chicos que se encontraban en una escuela artística que hay de fotografía y de teatro que me parece totalmente grandioso que se siga apostando al arte en nuestra ciudad, a pesar de que no sea muy valorado sin duda alguna esta calle de Carabobo es un complemento perfecto de historia, arte, cultura, tradición, enalteciendo nuestro espíritu marabino y de su Zulianidad en apoyo al talento local.

Finally, it was a wonderful tour; I also got to see some young people at an arts school specialising in photography and theatre. I think it’s absolutely brilliant that our city continues to invest in the arts, even though they aren’t particularly valued. Without a doubt, this street in Carabobo is a perfect blend of history, art, culture and tradition, celebrating our Marabino spirit and our Zulian identity whilst supporting local talent.
