600 Years of Mysterious Beauty: A Journey to the Sixty Dome Mosque
Traveling is very fun for me and it is really exciting because you get to see beautiful views, places and many new things around the place you go. So, when I travel to a place where I have never been before, I observe it well. This was my first time going to that place.
The name of the place we went to is Shat Gombuj Mosque. Shat Gombuj Mosque is located in Bagerhat district of Khulna division of Bangladesh. It is not just a religious structure, it is also a history of Bangladesh, an ancient monument. A few days ago, a few of us got together to visit the monuments of this Shat Gombuj Mosque. Since I was young, I have been curious. So I have visited many places. Shat Gombuj Mosque is one of the historical places I have visited.
The beginning of the journey
Jugirgofa, a small village in Meherpur. That is where I grew up. From Jugirgofa, we left at night for Shat Gombuj Mosque. There are some reasons for going at night. One of the reasons is that we can reach Sakal and explore the place in a long time. But ours is completely different. Our plan to go was completely sudden. In the afternoon, while talking, a few of us suddenly talked about how it would be like to go somewhere. We all study in different colleges in different cities. We don't talk or chat much together like before. At that time, we all came home together for vacation, so we were chatting in the afternoon. At that time, the idea came up that let's all go to visit the Sixty Dome Mosque. Everyone's vacation will end in 2-3 days. Everyone will go their own way again. So it was decided that we will go tonight. For this reason, we rented a car at night and left for our destination. We reached Khulna city in the morning. Later, we left again for our destination, the Sixty Dome Mosque. Surrounded by fog, a calm environment, as if a mild winter was welcoming us.
First we went to the shrine of Khwaja Khan Jahan Ali. There are many places to see around it. Khan Jahan Ali's shrine, a beautiful pond called Gobind Sagar. I sat on the bank of the pond for a while and talked and took some pictures. Then we looked around Khan Jahan Ali's shrine a little and took some pictures. The water of the pond and the surrounding environment surrounded by trees looked really beautiful to me.
After breakfast there, we went to the Sixty Dome Mosque. Within a short time, we reached the Sixty Dome Mosque. From inside the car, we could see the beautiful view of the Sixty Dome Mosque. Seeing the establishment that I had read about in books with my own eyes was really a different feeling.
Our feeling
We got out of the car and entered the mosque's premises. There, we had to buy a ticket to enter, the ticket price was 30 taka maybe. I don't remember exactly, but they charged us 10 taka because we were students, but the ticket price was 500 taka for foreign tourists, and 200 taka for citizens of SAARC countries, I don't remember exactly. After buying the ticket, we entered the mosque area, where I also met some foreign tourists.
Then I went to the mosque, and it felt like I had entered the chapter of history that I had been reading since I was a child., Beautiful green environment, cool air, and inside the mosque full of ancient monuments, I felt a different rock, it felt like I had come to the past.
Then I walked around the mosque for a while and took some pictures, I heard some unknown history from some of the people there. Many of them talked about the bravery and religious contributions of Khwaja Khan Jahan Ali.
History of the Sixty Dome Mosque
The Sixty Dome Mosque was built by the then Muslim ruler Khan Jahan Ali. It was built in the middle of the 15th century. I saw another example of the Sultanate architecture. The number of domes of the mosque is actually 77, but locally it is known as the "Sixty Dome Mosque".
In 1985, UNESCO granted this mosque the status of a world heritage site. This is a matter of pride for Bangladesh. This proves that the value of our country's history and architecture is recognized worldwide.
The main structure of the mosque is built with red burnt bricks. As soon as you enter the mosque, you can see 60 pillars and 11 doors. These pillars hold the structure of the mosque beautifully.
From this trip, I have learned about the old culture and history of my country.
For those who have not yet visited the Sixty Dome Mosque, I would like to tell them to visit it at least once. You will see how beautiful the place is, the history lost in the flow of time will touch your heart. Actually, whenever I go somewhere, I like to learn more about the place, so I couldn't take many pictures. I took a few pictures and shared them with you. Let me know how you liked them in the comments.
