Lantern Festival Chile 🇨🇱 [Eng][Spa]

While on my short, but very busy, stay in the city of Santiago de Chile, I came across an outstanding light show that was being exhibited for the first time in the Chilean capital.

The Lantern Festival Chile celebrates Chinese culture and provides a space where attendees can not only enjoy a myriad of illuminated decorations but also music and gastronomy.

With such a premise and some festive day with almost everything in the city closed, it was one of the best options for recreation within the city.

I have to admit that at first I didn't think the entrance fee was appropriate, it seemed a bit excessive, around 10,00 €. Although my hosts in the city told me that it was a regular price for that kind of events in the city, so probably my perception wasn't entirely correct.

This festival is still active in the city and will be available for enjoyment until the end of March 2023, during the dates of what is considered the Chilean summer.

The most striking thing upon arriving at the place is that the entrance is decorated with motifs of Chinese culture and are quite attractive for the powerful red color, however something that was also very striking was the number of people who were heading to the place.

Of course we were not the only ones who had come to the conclusion that this activity was a good idea for that day.

What made me retake the idea of the price, with so many people attending it seemed to me that the profit could be exorbitant, although I honestly do not have the slightest idea of the investment and the cost of such an event. And it is also very possible that since it was a holiday the attendance was higher than usual.

But anyway, there were a lot of people, so when we crossed the big entrance gate and saw that the closest thing was the food stands and that for each one there were long lines of people waiting to be served, we decided to guarantee the food first of all.

Durante mi corta, pero muy movida, estancia en la ciudad de Santiago de Chile, coincidí con un llamativo espectaculo de luces que que se exponía por primera vez en la capital chilena.

El Lantern Festival Chile celebra la cultura China y proporciona un espacio en donde los asistentes no solo pueden disfrutar de un sinfín de decoraciones iluminadas sino también de música y gastronomía.

Con tal premisa y algún día festivo con casi todo en la ciudad cerrado, era una de las mejores opciones de esparcimiento dentro de la ciudad.

Tengo que admitir que al principio no me pareció que el costo de la entrada fuese apropiado, me pareció un poco excesivo, alrededor de unos 10,00 €. Aunque mis anfitriones en la ciudad me decían que era un precio regular para ese tipo de eventos en la ciudad, así que probablemente mi percepción no era del todo correcta.

Este festival sigue activo en la ciudad y estará activo para disfrutar de él hasta finales de marzo de 2023, durante las fechas de lo que es considerado el verano en chileno.

Lo más llamativo nada más llegar al lugar es que la entrada está decorada con motivos de la cultura china y resultan bastante atractivos por el potente color rojo, sin embargo algo que también era muy impactante era la cantidad de personas que se dirigían al lugar.

Por supuesto no habíamos sido nosotros los únicos que habíamos llegado a la conclusión de que esa actividad era una buena idea para aquel día.

Lo que me hizo retomar la idea del precio, con tanta gente asistiendo me parecía que la ganancia podría ser exorbitante, aunque sinceramente no tengo la más mínima idea de la inversión y el coste de un evento así. Y también es muy posible que al ser una festividad la asistencia haya sido mayor que lo regular.

Pero en fin, había mucha gente, así que al cruzar la gran puerta de acceso y ver que lo más cercano eran los puestos de comida y que por cada uno había grandes colas de personas esperando ser atendidas, decidimos garantizar la comida primero que nada.

The gastronomic proposal was quite varied, always associated with Asian gastronomy and curiously more towards Japanese food. I expected to find more spring chickens and less ramen.

But for some reason the reality was that, so we decided to try a couple of things, something that seemed closest to Chinese food and something else that seemed interesting even though it was more Japanese.

The most Chinese I could get were some Dumplings, they looked pretty good and in the same place you could order some Takoyakis which would be our second dish to taste, Japanese but it was the longest line and we thought it would be because it was the most requested option.

When paying at the cashier we also ordered some canned drinks that we didn't know what they were but they caught our attention because they had figures of very well known anime, Japanese again, and we were curious.

They turned out to be Bubble tea, let's just say that it is an option that would not be a priority in any other circumstance. Milk-based drinks are not really my thing, although the truth is that I had fun for a while trying to get the balls out of the can, because yes, we waited quite a long time. It was barely dusk when we began to line up to wait for our food.

La propuesta gastronómica era bastante variada, siempre asociada a la gastronomía asiática y curiosamente más hacia la comida japonesa. Yo me esperaba encontrar más pollitos de primavera y menos ramen.

Pero por algún motivo la realidad era esa, así que decidimos probar un par de cosas, algo que nos pareciera lo más cercano a la comida china y otra que pareciera interesante aunque fuese más japonesa.

Lo más chino que pude conseguir fueron unos Dumplings, lucían bastante bien y en el mismo sitio podían ordenarse unos Takoyakis que sería nuestro segundo plato a degustar, japonés pero era la fila más larga y pensamos que sería porque era la opción más solicitada.

Al pagar en caja ambas cosas pedimos también unas bebidas enlatadas que no sabíamos qué eran pero que nos llamaron la atención por tener figuras de animes muy conocidos, japoneses otra vez, y nos dio curiosidad.

Resultaron ser Bubble tea, digamos que es una opción que no primaría en otra circunstancia. Lo de las bebidas a base de leche no son muy lo mío, aunque lo cierto es que me divertí un rato intentando sacar las bolitas de la lata, porque eso sí, esperamos bastante tiempo. Apenas se vislumbraba el atardecer cuando comenzamos a hacer la fila para esperar nuestra comida.

Along with the drinks we tried the Dumplings, as they were served immediately. These were really good, we ordered them filled with pork, others with vegetables and a sweet potato based one which was the least interesting. However, they were very well prepared and I was very pleased that we chose them.

After a long time passed, we regretted several times to have paid for the Takoyakis without asking before, it is true that the girl who served us told us that the queue was the longest, as a warning before payment.

We discovered with regret that the queue was the longest because of the delay and not because the preparation was really a delicacy.

We were waiting so long that we took turns taking a few rides individually to see a little bit of the nearest attractions.

They even had tents set up for massage and oriental rehabilitation. There was also a stage where every so often a group would perform martial arts and typical music.

Junto a las bebidas probamos los Dumplings, pues nos lo sirvieron de inmediato. Estos estaban realmente buenos, los pedimos rellenos de cerdo, otros de vegetales y uno dulce a base de boniato que resultó el menos interesante. Sin embargo estaban muy bien elaborados y me gustó mucho que los eligiéramos.

Después pasó mucho rato, la verdad nos arrepentimos varias veces de haber pagado por los Takoyakis sin preguntar antes, es cierto que la chica que nos atendió nos indico que la cola de espera era la más larga, como una advertencia antes del pago.

Descubrimos con pesar que la cola era la más larga por el retraso que llevaban y no porque la elaboración fuese realmente una exquisitez.

Estuvimos tanto tiempo esperando que nos turnábamos para dar algunos paseos individualmente y poder ver un poco de las atracciones más cercanas.

Tenían hasta carpas habilitadas para hacer masajes y rehabilitación orientales. También había un escenario en donde cada cierto tiempo se presentaba un grupo realizando muestras de artes marciales y música típica.

An hour and five minutes later they began to serve us and we could see that the problem was that the people in charge did not master the elaboration, by the way none of the food stands was attended by an Asian, this should not mean anything bad of course, but I think that with delicate elaborations you have to be better prepared.

It was not worth the wait, the best thing about this dish was the eel sauce which was obviously from a jar. The Katsuobushi was poorly used and didn't feel real and the dumplings were a bit chewy.

When we finally got out of the line we were waiting in, night had fallen, we were a little overwhelmed by the experience but the truth is that we could start the tour in the dark and better enjoy the lights that we were offered.

We must always look for the bright side.

Una hora y cinco minutos más tardes comenzaron a atendernos y pudimos observar que el problema era que las personas a cargo no dominaban la elaboración, por cierto ninguno de los puestos de comida era atendido por algún asiático, esto no debería significar nada malo por supuesto, pero creo que con elaboraciones delicadas hay que prepararse mejor.

No valía la pena tanta espera, lo mejor de este plato era la salsa de anguila que obviamente era de bote. El Katsuobushi estaba mal empleado y no se sentía real y las bolitas eran un poco mazacote.

Cuando al fin pudimos salir de la fila en que estuvimos esperando ya había caído la noche, estábamos un poco agobiados por esa experiencia pero la verdad es que así pudimos comenzar el recorrido en la oscuridad y disfrutar mejor de las luces que nos ofrecían.

Hay que buscar siempre el lado positivo.

There is no denying that the contrast between the light show and the darkness is striking.

The Lantern Festival Chile has been located within the grounds of the Parque de la Familia, which is part of the circuit of metropolitan parks in the city called Parquemet.

This particularly stands out for having a large lagoon in which there are a couple of islands connected by pedestrian bridges, this makes it a really interesting location for all the staging offered by the festival.

The reflections of the lights on the water are beautiful and they have taken advantage of the space very well because having several structures on the lagoon generates a lot of interest to appreciate the reflections on it.

When you start the tour there is a long corridor with oriental lamps and lots of lighting that guides you to the route marked by the organization.

The first luminous structures are those representing the animals of the Chinese horoscope, I have to say that although they were all worthy of photographing, it was not an easy task because of the number of people on the site.

So I decided to get closer and wait a little bit in the ones I liked the most, plus I got a space to take a picture next to the horse, which is supposed to be the animal that represents my year of birth.

No se puede negar que resulta impactante e contraste que ofrece el espectáculo de luces con la oscuridad.

El Lantern Festival Chile ha sido ubicado dentro del recinto del Parque de la Familia, que forma parte del circuito de parques metropolitanos de la ciudad llamados Parquemet.

Este destaca particularmente por contar con una amplia laguna en las que hay un par de islas conectadas por puentes peatonales, esto lo hace una ubicación realmente interesante para toda la puesta en escena que ofrece el festival.

Los reflejos de las luces en el agua son preciosos y han aprovechado muy bien el espacio pues al disponer de varias estructuras sobre la laguna se genera mucho interés por apreciar los reflejos en ella.

Cuando comienzas el recorrido hay un largo pasillo con lamparas orientales y mucha iluminación que te guía hacía el recorrido marcado por la organización.

Las primeras estructuras luminosas son las que representan los animales del horóscopo chino, tengo que decir que aunque eran todas dignas de fotografiar, no era tarea fácil por la cantidad de personas en el sitio.

Así que decidí acercarme y esperar un poco en las que más me gustaron, además conseguí un espacio para hacerme una fotografía junto al caballo, que se supone es el animal que representa mi año de nacimiento.

Arrived at the final point where the horoscope figures were exposed, we realized that the people who were leaning on the railing that surrounded the lake and were in front of the horoscope animals, were not there just to rest, but were formed in a line to move forward in the tour.

The first thing that crossed my mind was to abandon the idea of continuing that way, I didn't want to go through the food experience again, but we could see that this was the only way to be able to see the light show and there was no other way but to wait in line.

We took a deep breath, talked for a while and I took the opportunity to take pictures of different details that I found interesting. Since we were moving slowly, I took the time to take a lot of shots to try to get some decent ones.

I had several problems due to the amount of lighting, people, flashes and movement, but I think I was able to rescue interesting images to share this experience.

Llegados al punto final donde se exponían las figuras del horóscopo, nos dimos cuenta que la gente que se apoyaba en la barandilla que rodeaba al lago y estaba frente de los animales del horóscopo, no estaban ahi solo para descansar, sino que estaban formados en una fila para poder avanzar en el recorrido.

Lo primero que se me pasó por la mente fue abandonar la idea de continuar por ahí, no quería volver a pasar por la experiencia de la comida, pero pudimos observar que ese era el único camino para poder ver el espectáculo de luces y no había otra forma más que hacer la cola.

Respiramos profundo, hablamos un rato y aproveché de ir haciendo fotos a distintos detalles que me parecieran interesantes. Ya que avanzábamos lentamente, me tomé el tiempo de hacer muchas tomas para intentar alguna decente.

Tuve varios inconvenientes por la cantidad de iluminación, gente, flashes y movimiento, pero creo que pude rescatar imágenes interesantes para poder compartir esta experiencia.

I think it is important to emphasize, although I have already mentioned it, how impressive the reflection of the lights in the water is. Worthy of being remembered, on some occasions it seemed to me that the reflected image surpassed the real one.

Walking slowly, we crossed the bridges between the islands of the park and we could appreciate different gardens that reminded us of Asian plants, all decorated with lights of course.

Also there we could see that a traffic jam was generated and that after crossing the bridges the tour became more fluid and pleasant.

Me parece importante resaltar, aunque ya lo he comentado, lo impresionante que es el reflejo de las luces en el agua. Digno de ser recordado, en algunas ocasiones me pareció que la imagen reflejada superaba al real.

Caminando lentamente, atravesamos los puentes entre las islas del parque y pudimos apreciar diferentes jardines que hacían recordar a plantas asiáticas, todos estos decorados con luces por supuesto.

También allí pudimos ver que se generaba un atasco y que luego de atravesar los puentes el recorrido se tornaba más fluido y agradable.

Without a doubt my favorite part was a small garden with big trees designed with blue and purple lights, I think it was one of the most beautiful things on display. Very Avatar alike.

I was also very impressed when we got to the illuminated ship structure. I think it is one of the main attractions and one that everyone enjoys seeing, because it is very well done and the backdrop of the illuminated gardens sets it off quite nicely.

Sin duda alguna mi parte favorita fue un pequeño jardín con grandes arboles diseñados con luces azules y moradas, creo que era de las cosas más bonitas expuestas. Muy Avatar.

También me causó mucha impresión cuando llegamos a la estructura del barco iluminado. Creo que es de las atracciones principales y que todos disfrutan ver, porque está muy bien hecha y el fondo de los jardines iluminados lo ambienta bastante bien.

As an interesting detail, between the sections of the path you could see some animal lamps, they were between the gardens and on the lampposts. I liked that detail although I couldn't photograph all of them because they were the most demanded by the children.

The last exhibition that closed the show was totally Christmas. At the time I went it was Christmas time and there was a long path with toys, sleds and illuminated Christmas figures. I don't know if they left it up until March but it was quite a long area.

That path ran along the back of the exhibit, near the road and brought you back to the beginning of it all. The last illuminated structure was a sort of huge vase that changed colors and farewelled your festival experience.

Como detalle interesante, entre los tramos del recorrido se podían apreciar algunas lamparas de animales, estaban entre los jardines y sobre las farolas. Ese detalle me gustó aunque no los pude fotografiar todos porque eran los más demandados por los niños.

La ultima exposición que cerraba el espectáculo era totalmente navideña. En el momento que fui era época decembrina y había un largo camino con juguetes, trineos y muñecos navideños iluminados. Desconozco si lo han dejado hasta marzo pero era una zona bastante larga.

Ese camino recorría la parte trasera de la exposición, cerca de la carretera y te hacía llegar de nuevo al inicio de todo. La ultima estructura iluminada era una especie de jarrón enorme que cambiaba de colores y despedía tu experiencia en el festival.

At the end of the tour I left happy, there were things I enjoyed and moments that I really like to photograph, but I think the event could be a little better coordinated.

I have attended on one of the days when there would probably be more affluence, even so an event that proposes such a unique experience should be better adapted.

As for the price, I'm still debating whether it is appropriate or not, maybe 10,00 € doesn't seem much but I think that if I had been alone I wouldn't have attended. Besides, the experience of the food was not at all pleasant, and that's all it takes to unbalance the balance.

Go to enjoy the event, the lights and the culture, but not to eat, although if you do, go for the dumplings without a doubt.

Al final del recorrido salí contenta, hubo cosas que disfruté y momentos que me gustó mucho fotografiar, pero creo que pudiera coordinarse un poco mejor el evento.

Yo he asistido en uno de los días en que probablemente hubiera más afluencia, aun así un evento que propone una experiencia tan única debería estar mejor adaptado.

En cuanto al precio, aún me sigo debatiendo si es acorde o no, quizá 10,00 € no parezca mucho pero creo que si yo hubiese estado sola no hubiese asistido. Además la experiencia de la comida deja mucho que desear, nada más con eso se desequilibra mucho la balanza.

Ir a disfrutar del evento, las luces y la cultura, pero no a comer, aunque si lo hacen, hay que ir por los dumplings sin duda alguna.
