Pigeons bathe in cold water in winter.
Winter has already fully arrived here. There's a lot of snow, and the nights are especially cold. The river has frozen over, and all the waterfowl that stayed behind for the winter have migrated to a small dam, where the water stays frozen even in the coldest weather.

I noticed a large gathering of pigeons near the dam. It seemed like nothing out of the ordinary—there are always so many of them here—but what struck me was that they were sitting on the concrete dam wall in the water, drinking cold water and sticking their heads deep into it.

It was quite cold that day, and a cool wind was blowing. So the weather was very uncomfortable.

I have never seen pigeons sit in cold water for so long in winter and drink it.

But these pigeons were somehow not like usual and I stood for a long time watching them.

I was very surprised why they didn’t freeze, because they stood with bare paws for a long time in the water on the cold concrete.

Of course, it was very interesting to look at these unusual pigeons, but I began to freeze standing still and was very envious of these birds that stood in the water and did not freeze.

Да им и не холодно. Терморегуляция у птиц хорошая за счет энергии, а голуби жрут всегда хорошо.
