I try to use my holidays to take the children to the temple to make merit, instilling in them a sense of Thai identity and Thai customs and traditions.

Hello everyone! During the recent holiday, I had planned to take my children to a temple, our usual one, to make merit. This temple has a very long history; King Rama IX once presided over an opening ceremony here, and I learned that he donated money to build the first Thai temple in Malaysia, which has a very long history. My children are of Thai-Chinese descent, and there are some cultural and religious differences between Thai and Chinese people. Therefore, I try to teach my children about Thai culture, even though we live in Malaysia and our family is 100% Chinese. My youngest daughter is quite curious about the culture... so it's easy to teach her. My eldest daughter is more indifferent, but she can still participate and learn, even though she sometimes seems tired of my attempts to teach her. Today was a very special occasion because a Buddhist monk was performing a forehead blessing ceremony for the Buddhist devotees who came to make merit. There were so many people today, and even though it was raining lightly, it didn't hinder the faith of the Thai and Chinese Buddhists with Thai families in making merit.

After the forehead anointing and blessing ceremony was complete, we began applying gold leaf to the various Buddha statues. I taught her the method and the order in which to do it, and my little one was very cooperative and happy with what she was doing. She kept asking me all the time how to do it.

This Buddha image is revered and respected by the Thai people. His name is Luang Pho To. All Thais worship him with pure hearts and offer prayers with pure intentions, according to ancient beliefs.

We spent several hours at the temple because the queue was quite long.. Even when we came outside the temple pavilion, the atmosphere was still somber. I think it will rain again soon. But this kind of weather makes the air very hot and stuffy.
