It’s been a long time since I read fictional materials some days ago, I stumbled on this book from my bookshelf and decided to read it. It was so captivating and full of suspense. Hence the summary of the book.

The only limitation faced by humans is the fact that they cannot predict the future. One thing is certain, and that is that we only live in the present, and whatever decision we make about life will certainly determine what the future will look like. It’s either the future will be better or it will mar us. Here is a story of a young promising boy called Jeff in the city of Benin, Nigeria, who was ambitious about his education. He knew from the onset that education is the key to success, and to achieve greater success, he must reach a certain height in his academic pursuits. As a result of this, he tried everything within his reach to be admitted into the university. He had written the JAMB examination three times, yet admission did not come. It became worse for him when most of his friends were already in university. This was enough to demoralise him. However, on the verge of giving up, he decided to give it a try for the last time. Thanks to his parent who did not give up on him. Jeff’s mom will always say to him, “Son, you will make it this time around”. His father, on the other hand, sprang into action by calling some of his lecturer friends, who agreed to help his son gain admission into the university. In the end, Jeff was admitted to the University of Benin, Nigeria, with the help of his uncle.

The university system in Nigeria is full of distractions. The author truly pointed out this fact when Jeff, a once good home boy, eventually joined a secret cult called “black eagle” through his friend Mark. Things began to turn around for Jeff. He has a new family. His security on the school campus is certain, and he is bound to gather respect from both lecturers and students. Very importantly he can go around with any girl of his choice. These however, were the promises made to him. He loved it and became a tyrant on the school campus. He became a stooge to his boss Piro, who usually sends him, among other people, on errands, and they must carry them out effectively; otherwise, their punishment will be inevitable.
From the story, the author has pointed out that to achieve an ambition, you must toil for it. The story also captures an ambitious woman who wants to get to the peak of her career in politics. To achieve such fame, she had to do everything demanded of her, including having an extramarital affair with the political godfathers.

The central theme of the book is the struggle for survival. Life is a product of struggle, and anyone who is not ready to fight stands a chance of losing out, while those who fight have a chance of making it in life. Moreover, in life, you must be ready to pay a price to get what you want. Anything can be achieved in life if one is ready to pay the price. Most times we give out what we have to get what we want. That’s the principle of life.

Hacía mucho tiempo que no leía material de ficción hace unos días, me tropecé con este libro de mi estantería y decidí leerlo. Era tan cautivador y lleno de suspense. De ahí el resumen del libro.

La única limitación a la que se enfrenta el ser humano es el hecho de no poder predecir el futuro. Una cosa es cierta, y es que sólo vivimos en el presente, y cualquier decisión que tomemos sobre la vida determinará sin duda cómo será el futuro. O el futuro será mejor o nos estropeará. He aquí la historia de un joven prometedor llamado Jeff, de la ciudad de Benin (Nigeria), que era ambicioso en cuanto a su educación. Sabía desde el principio que la educación es la clave del éxito, y para alcanzar un éxito mayor, debía llegar a una cierta altura en sus esfuerzos académicos. Por ello, hizo todo lo que estuvo a su alcance para ser admitido en la universidad. Hizo el examen JAMB tres veces, pero no fue admitido. La situación empeoró cuando la mayoría de sus amigos ya estaban en la universidad. Esto bastó para desmoralizarle. Sin embargo, a punto de darse por vencido, decidió intentarlo por última vez. Gracias a sus padres, que no le abandonaron. La madre de Jeff siempre le decía: «Hijo, esta vez lo conseguirás». Su padre, por su parte, se puso en marcha llamando a algunos de sus amigos profesores, que accedieron a ayudar a su hijo a ingresar en la universidad. Al final, Jeff fue admitido en la Universidad de Benin (Nigeria) con la ayuda de su tío.

El sistema universitario de Nigeria está lleno de distracciones. El autor lo puso de manifiesto cuando Jeff, que antes era un buen chico de casa, acabó uniéndose a una secta secreta llamada «águila negra» a través de su amigo Mark. Las cosas empezaron a cambiar para Jeff. Tiene una nueva familia. Su seguridad en el campus de la escuela es segura, y está obligado a ganarse el respeto de profesores y alumnos. Y lo que es más importante, puede salir con la chica que quiera. Estas fueron las promesas que le hicieron. Le encantó y se convirtió en un tirano en el campus de la escuela. Se convirtió en un títere de su jefe Piro, que suele enviarle, entre otras personas, a hacer recados, y deben cumplirlos con eficacia; de lo contrario, su castigo será inevitable.
A partir del relato, el autor ha señalado que para alcanzar una ambición hay que trabajar duro por ella. La historia también recoge el caso de una mujer ambiciosa que quiere llegar a la cima de su carrera en la política. Para alcanzar tal fama, tiene que hacer todo lo que se le exige, incluso tener una aventura extramatrimonial con los padrinos políticos.

El tema central del libro es la lucha por la supervivencia. La vida es producto de la lucha, y quien no está dispuesto a luchar tiene posibilidades de salir perdiendo, mientras que quien lucha tiene posibilidades de triunfar en la vida. Además, en la vida hay que estar dispuesto a pagar un precio para conseguir lo que uno quiere. Todo se puede conseguir en la vida si uno está dispuesto a pagar el precio. La mayoría de las veces damos lo que tenemos para conseguir lo que queremos. Ese es el principio de la vida.
