Wednesday Walk Calabar Carnival (28/12/2022)
The Calabar Carnival is held every 28th December, in Calabar the capital of Cross River State, Nigeria. It wasn't held for two years, though, because of, you guessed it, The Pandemic. So the 2022 carnival was a return and the excitement was more!
The Carnival is the day I usually take the longest walk of the year! The way the carnival is done is like this: 7 or so bands made up of hundreds of people come out with costumes and dances reflecting the year's theme. They dance on the streets through about half of the city! There are judges in many parts of the city who would grade them and a winner is announced the next day.
People flood the city to watch, everywhere looks great and the energy becomes insane!
And my companions usually start at the starting point and walk with the bands through almost half the city, taking pictures, watching the dances, admiring the costumes and art, buying food and snacks on the way, bumping into old friends, getting high on booze and generally having fun!
We walked from 4 pm till about 11 PM!
And In this post, you'll get to see pictures and how it feels like to be me or my companions on a day like the Carnival Day. Let's go!
This is me, perfect looking black guy, come with me 🌚😉.
The following are the first pictures we took while starting: The girl is @theenchantress, great friend of mine:
The next photos are that of me and my 3 brothers. I'm the second, the guy right next to me is the eldest:
Then next are some photos I and Enchantress took with some of the dancers:
I also got some grinding going on, not a bad day, I tell you:
And now, random photos of the dancers and costumes and art:
Final night photos:
To close the night I and the whole crew sat down and had drinks and meats:
It was such a great day and a really really long walk, took a toll on our bodies in the coming days but on the day itself? It was painless and only filled with excitement and energy!
The End

This blog reminds me of how far we also have to walk when a famous festival in the city takes place. This actually is happening soon in the 3rd week of January, the Sinulog Festival in my place!
Street dancing, street parties too!
Wow, that's great. You should make a post about it like this, I'll love to see it and I think it would be a great showcase.
