Golden Orioles

Last year I saw for the first time Golden Oriole. It was not once, but many times to spot both the female and male bird and on top of that to find the nest and to photograph the babies. The nest was on high branch and I could see just little heads poking out. I have mention in some of my posts that the nest stayed intact during winter. Quite easy to see it on the bare branches and I was hoping when the birds return in the spring, they will use it again. How happy I was to hear and after that to see four orioles in the same place and how sad after few days when I saw the nest on the ground. No idea who knocked it down, but the orioles were nowhere to be seen. Whatever the reason, they have gone and settled somewhere else.

One day hubby went to the pet shop and decided to explore the hill behind it. There he saw the oriole and off we went together at the weekend.

Such a delight! The birds did not go too far and there they are - a couple.

First the male with his striking yellow plumage and black wings, unmistakable.

And here is his lady, not so attractive like him, but that's what it is in the birds world, males are more beautiful.

Her call wasn't as pleasant as their song.

The pictures did not turn as nice as I wish, but nonetheless I have both birds in one photo. Below is the uncropped image.

Now I am sure they have a nest on the hill, hard to be found, as this place is divided into several private plots and we cannot approach any closer. Still it is nice to know that the orioles are around and as a bonus we saw young green woodpecker. Sorry, no photo of it. Maybe next time. Untill then - happy birding!

Super pictures Neli, the Golden Oriole is high on my wishlist! There are some birds which visit in the Summer months, but they are a rare occurrence here.

Lucky you to have a nesting pair so close to you!

Thank you so much.🙂
I never thought I could see orioles before, let alone to photograph. I am super lucky as they hide most of the time. Sometimes all I can see is yellow torpedo flying among the trees. 😀
Hope you will see these beautiful singers.

I was secretly hoping to finally see one of them in my last vacations, but still wasn't this time. Awesome photos!

They are very shy birds and I am so happy they live close to my home.
There is an oriole near my office too, but I have no chance to see it by far. Each morning I hear him singing.

They are beautiful, I have never seen them, but have heard they have a lovely song?

Yes, their song is lovely and very specific. Sometimes the starlings imitate the orioles and confuse me.

Glad you saw them again. Sad that their nest was destroyed. Great images here @nelinoeva
It's hard to spot them really, I don't see them around any longer here. Their nesting season is over I guess. Hope to see them next spring.
