Where are the singers from?

Behind the National Capitol, in Old Havana, this cinema—or what remains of it—always catches my eye, and I've taken a photo of it more than once as I've passed by. I suppose it's those letters on the walls and the surroundings that reveal stark contrasts that draw my attention.

Let’s take a few steps back so you can see what I mean... 😉

It’s down there at the end of this sidewalk… oh, but you can’t really see the surroundings. Let me check if I have something better.

😃

I keep walking backwards… that has its dangers, you know?

But let’s drop the game now… I read that this cinema has had several names and eventually adopted the one that’s the title of a documentary from many years ago, about the harsh life of charcoal workers in the Zapata Swamp—if my memory serves me right.

I have many Cuban films saved on CDs, those discs, I don’t even know where to play them anymore. I’ve had to go over to my friend Amanda Flores’s place sometimes, haha… she has an old fashion laptop with a CD drive.. I was thinking of sharing them from time to time so people can download them... speaking of which, let me see if I can find a fragment of that documentary, which is in black and white and fits well in this community.

(((( 🤓 searching...

I found it! Click on this link if you want to watch it.

Well, that day, El Mégano was screaming. I don’t know where the singers are from, but I had to peek in and take their photo. This is my entry for the #Monomad Challenge.

El Mégano hosts a few bands these days for their rehearsals. This one in particular was very loud—the kind of music I don’t tolerate much… I think that cinema still has remarkable endurance. But even so, I didn’t stay long, because with all the bass vibrations, the walls were shaking.

A fascinating photographic document, and thanks for that link too. I like to watch old black and white films from time to time, especially from our countries... It sometimes inspires me to have monochromatic visions and ideas... I remembered my dad, who used to say: "In Cuba, there is no bad artist; everyone has talent."

Yes, it’s just that one reaches an age where loud, booming music starts to bother me a little haha… Thank you. It’s a joy to receive such appreciation from you.

I had hundreds of CDs with films and music, but when I left I had to get rid of absolutely everything. All that remains is the memory of having had them and the number of films I watched... I went back in time, just like you retraced your steps.

Beautiful photographs, full of steps and walks.

What a brilliant video...

Just at the right moment!

It's interesting how good photographs turn out when you're in the right place at the right time! Good evening!

Hey, I also have a large number of Cuban films on DVD that I bought when I went to Cuba, and the same thing happens to me. I can't play them anymore. Technology forced us to stop using those devices. On the other hand, as always, great shots, each scene with its own essence.

We have to recover all of that. What a whirlwind! Haha… thank you, @wilfredocav, for your constant support and appreciation. It really encourages me to keep improving in this field. 🤗

Wow... How sad to see El Mégano in that state... I haven't been there for a while and seeing it in this state saddens me... A harsh reality that you portray so excellently!

Hello... yes, it truly is a shame that things are destroyed like this, but I suppose it’s all part of a divine plan. Death comes to bring new life, or a necessary change.

Thank you!

What beautiful documentary photos @nanixxx 📷! I laughed at the part about the loud music that overwhelmed you a little, hahaha. I agree with what someone else said in another comment: Cuba has talent to spare, good musicians, good singers, they have a lot of guaguancó 🎼🤗.

What do you mean you don’t use it? You don’t have any CDs? What a shame—you don’t know what you’re missing! Haha.

Hi @nanixxx, I also keep some movies on CD ... so a few months ago I bought a portable label ...

The documentary I'll take time to see it ... Thank you for sharing it, and thanks for those magnificent phototographies ... I really liked the last ones.

Hug!! ☀️😎

Oh, vinyls and CDs, 😀 you really are a collector! Thank you so much for stopping by and for your feedback. These kinds of photos, if they’re preserved over the years (not on CDs, of course) might be quite interesting for future earthlings. 😅

Hug! 👋😴
