One always learns something new

This mural is set up on Belgium Avenue in Old Havana, and at first sight I didn’t know who those characters were… but straight away you could spot a few things: they were in Havana—the Morro lighthouse is right there behind them—and they looked amazed by something…
I turned around to see if I was missing something… it was one of those moments when I feel the walls are speaking to me. 😁

They are two characters from a Belgian comic 😃. Let me introduce Blake & Mortimer. However much I searched in my neural files, I found nothing—no reference at all. I even tried to recall the cartoons I’ve seen… nothing! They were created in 1946 by the artist Edgar P. Jacobs (1904–1987). That’s what the information board said. And the mural found its little place in the heart of Havana on the occasion of the 19th Belgian Week. The author of the illustration for this mural, inspired by The Yellow Mark, the most famous adventure of this duo, is the Belgian artist Etienne Schréder, while Cuban artists Janet Frómeta Benítez and Daniel Bárbaro Quirós Izquierdo carried out the work.
😄 One always learns something new.
Thing is, I got a sudden nostalgia for a walk round Havana, so I dug into my photo archive.

I felt like that pigeon, right in the middle of those scruffy little pieces.

So I went digging into the photos I’d chucked away and spotted a few interesting bits… or maybe not… you’ll let me know. I don’t want to take up your time.
In this pic I hadn’t clocked the vibe… looks like they’re about to jump out of the shot any second.
And there’s her stare as well… what vibe does it give you? That day I was staring at the sculpture down below—it reminded me of a big one on the Malecón—but I didn’t twig that the woman up top was looking at me with… so, what do you reckon her look says? Funny how people can see the same thing so differently.

And I came across these paintings at the Andalusian Centre in Havana… which made me remember I never got round to the flamenco show they have (still going, I guess) every third Saturday of the month.

Looking at this photo I wished the shadow were more expressive… but never mind. I wasn’t there at the right moment.

I’ve snapped this mural loads of times… but I just can’t be bothered to put all the shots in one folder. Shows you the mess my hard drive’s in.

There is too much visual noise here. 😏

My dear @nanixxx, you never steal time. I start with the first mural in a clear, spectacular line, I also really like that flamenco photograph and that dove... although the one I like the most is the one with the reflection of the bicycle in the glass.
Happy Sunday... Thank you!! 🤗
Looks like I’ll be in bed all morning… 😄
Cheers. You can tell me later how much the sun stuck around with you this Sunday.
Hasta luego... descansa. ya te contaré como fue mi encuentro con el Sol. Yo ahora saldré hasta... no sé, hasta que vuelva... creo 🤣
Un abrazo muy grande!!

Amidst the noise, there is courage that emerges from the gaze of intuition that hypnotises the sculpture, while at the same time the characters pursue freedom.
The characters in the comic are my favourites!
I never leave anything to chance in my posts… everything has a reason. And your comment seems very creative to me. Thanks!

Blake & Mortimer? 😕... I didn't know them either until now!... You're right: One always learns something new!... Excellent photos and thanks for sharing, @nanixxx friend!
I grew up with Russian and Cuban cartoons—the proper old classics. But checking out The Yellow Mark, it looks more like it’s for adult and young adult audience.
Murals on the facades of buildings are always interesting to photograph and they have their own stories, at least here, in my city. I should get into the act of photographing those murals, there are new ones and I haven't started photographing them yet. Great Shots dear Friend!

Hi there, so glad this post inspired you to chase after that art—I’m a big fan too. I always end up staring at them for ages, making up stories about those walls and what the artists wanted to say.
Thank you so much, @goga22.
❤️
Simply bravo!
Now you are on my favorite list. You are Cuban, how nice. Now my votes are over for a few hours. I will come back and vote for this post. Super nice mural. The paintings are superb.
