Havana's open veins
Statue of Nicolás Guillén in the Alameda de Paula. Old Havana, Cuba.
The poet had, as always, his gaze lost in the sea while the city showed its open veins.
It was necessary to canalize... better... the water.
It was April 2019 and in November the lady frozen in time would have her 500th birthday.
And I was a simple journalist with a camera, thinking... who knows what... I was probably thinking less than I do today.
I remember we went at two places in the city to document the Aguas de La Habana company's work.
In this place we stayed for a short time.
Now you walk on those cobblestones... think about it. But there was a lot of digging to do inside.
Would you like to go to this place, 5 years later? Maybe we will.
I was never good at maths and I have always watched birds. This one is not afraid of lions.
For now, let us continue to look at the depth of the wounds.
I've been wanting to share these photos in the #Monomad Challenge for a while.... today I felt the day had finally come.
It really was all very photogenic. I am grateful that I had this opportunity and that a few thoughts come to me today.
10 de Octubre Municipality. Havana, Cuba.
Journalists are sometimes so annoying... I know.
Just get them wet!
I don't know if I managed to edit the photo where they are there doing that thing they do with their cameras...LOL.
Oh, yeah! zoom in on the photo.

Hey @nanixxx!!!... Amazing!... I fell in love with this photo when I looked at it!... It has a perfect composition obviously, but beyond that, it has that exquisite symbiosis between the new and the old, which is rarely easy to achieve and is always fantastic to see!

😃 Oh, I really appreciate it!
Many times it is necessary to open the wounds in order to heal... that led me to think about what I read, and then that image of the woman looking out the bus window... beautiful pictures. 😃
Yes, I was thinking about these things when I was writing. Thank you, Amonet. 🤗
😘😘😘
The statue was placed there because he used to visit the Alameda de Paula a lot and was seen thoughtful looking at the sea.
Ha, what is he thinking? You'll have to ask him...
Today I will talk about the photos, I loved them, they are very good. They are the best selfie I've ever taken. The one now would be different.
A big hug @nanixxx.
You'll probably be shining in the selfie now, even if you still have some digging and healing to do.
;)
Gracias y abrazo de vuelta.
Thanks to you for picking up my abyss. It is curious the way of perceiving the “objective”, where you have seen veins and water, I deposited my wound. In 2016 my father passed away and it was shattering for me. In these photos, I saw not only the pain, the open wound, also the subsequent path....
Thank you @nanixxx, have a great Friday, mine starts now.
Me pasó algo tan extraño... Y preocupante. Me sentí muy mal de salud repentinamente. Muy mareada. Sentí miedo.
He mejorado. No me gusta ir al médico, no quiero hacerme chequeos. No me gusta tomar pastillas.
Oh... 😍 ¡Un paseo! Seguramente que me encantará. Gracias.
Estoy en ello 😃, ya falta menos...
You were everywhere! Documenting better times with your always good photos.
I remember those works, Havana was like that in many places, waiting for the 500th Anniversary....passed with more sorrows than glories 🥺
I wonder if that hydraulic work solved the water problem that plagued Old Havana for so many years??? 🤔 Habrá que averiguar!!
It was all over Havana, where would it be? 😆
I think the problems continue, Amanda.

😁 Gracias Jess.
