Happy Lifer to me!
Chivo Beach. Havana. Cuba.
I got up early to have my first great birdwatching experience. It was precisely because @muhammadhalim had invited me to the place par excellence in this city—where those first unforgettable encounters with feathered friends truly feel like a party.

To be there watching and listening to these beautiful creatures, who come from far away to enjoy our warm waters and skies of such beautiful and varied shades of blue, is so enchanting that I, frankly, have not yet finished processing it. I am still missing that moment when the emotion settles and I can write more objectively.
I am going to tell you, however, some things that I experienced with intensity and joy deep in my heart.

I said in a previous post that when you have a first encounter with a bird, in this world of sightings, it is known as a Lifer. Well, I had many first encounters here. Just imagine... The photos have been uploaded a bit disorganised but there are 4 birds there, two American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana) and two Cachiporras or Black-necked Stilt (Himantopus mexicanus) which are a marvel to see. I used to say that my favourite birds were the Hummingbird and the Cuban Tody, but now... I don't know. There are so many birds that I like.... It's hard to choose after what I've seen today.
It's not that I haven't seen birds in my life... Of course I see many birds here in Hive, in magazines, in my backyard, in the trips I've taken around this island, but today.... I don't really have much objectivity.
Hahaha... Look for example that Great White Egret, Universe, she was lonely but she was really a queen, with her refined ways...others looked like they had had a very bad night. hahaha.... I thought about the open bar that awaits me tomorrow in Varadero. I will try not to look like them on Friday. And if it should happen, I'll wear sunglasses.

I witnessed a few food fights. Some go fishing to provide for their juveniles, while others find it more convenient to act like gangsters.
Who said life is simple. Anja, isn't it? This reminded me of this reel I saw last night and it really touched me.

The members of the birdwatchers' group we met there also had interesting conversations and I learned that there is another important place for this activity. It is near Casablanca and is known as Triscornia. This is a place with a lot of history, as it was here that many Spanish emigrants entered Cuba and had to pass through a dreaded quarantine... I think. I haven't done much research about it.

There were also a few fishermen and I took the opportunity to take some pictures of them, integrating the birds... Or vice versa. I think it's better to say it the other way around, because there the birds are the protagonists.

I am still making a list of all the birds that were there. It's not something I can do easily as I don't know them very well yet. But I do know that some of them have stuck in my mind. The American Avocets are two birds with their beaks slightly curved upwards. The Cachiporras are those black and white ones with long red legs. There are two of them too. The Zarapicos chicos or Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri) are the smallest ones and there is one that is called a Revuelvefango... oh, I don't know. 😃
Wait... searching... Revuelvepiedras or Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres). 🤣
Please, I need a chance to learn all this. For the time being enjoy these pictures and I will tell you in detail and precision about each one of them.
My colleagues say that the migration hasn't really started yet... So we will have a big party here I think.
😉👋🏻
P.S. I had to tweak things a bit here, because truth be told, it needed a touch more precision. I suppose things will improve as I get more familiar with all this.

Hermosas fotos de naturaleza. Gracias por acercarnos al mar y estas aves 💜🤍
Hola @iriswrite, gracias a ti. Hoy disfruté mucho haciendo estas fotos y compartiendo con buenas personas y muy alegres.
Hi @nanixxx, I think I'll dream about birds tonight, maybe trees too (esto no lo voy a explicar aquí). I loved the post... I'm in awe. If you don't need sunglasses tomorrow with this open bar of birds, you won't need them on Friday either.
And there are still more photos of Triscornia to come... keep enjoying the trip.
A very big hug. 🤗
Ah… there are so many birds. It’s such a picturesque place. Whenever I can, I’ll go on these adventures—because, honestly, they seem to do something really good to the brain… that’s another investigation I owe you.
I don’t think you need to explain that... about the tree... 😃 but I’m all ears elsewhere. Big hug!
Good morning @nanixxx, enjoy this trip... 🦤
A big hug.
🤗😉
Gracias otra vez.
It's so cool you got to live that experience, I didn't know there were groups like that in Cuba, I've only seen that in movies. You must have enjoyed it a lot 😊
A while ago, I heard a friend mention it—the existence of the Cuban birding club—but I didn’t really pay it the attention it deserved… nah, things come to you when you’re ready to receive them. Thank you, Wendy!
Yes, I’m enjoying it so much. 😅
WORDLESS! 😲

Cool shots!
I love those white egrets!
This is my favorite. Both the fishers as the egret doing their thing. Nice DOF!

I am very glad you like it. Always in these environments those combined scenes are very striking.
😉📷👋🏻 Thank you!
I thought and imagined myself there, standing silently and very still to take those wonderful photographs because they, the birds, are the protagonists. And they always are; man comes second, nature came first, and through this publication they are also protagonists here, in a very beautiful way.
You are striving to learn the species and names, and they know it. Your photographs are absolutely wonderful, like part of a documentary about serenity, the sea, rocks, and birds. The elegance of the wagtail and the fights for food in natural life. You have captured the essence of these birds, and surely there is much more to come. It has been fantastic to see these views full of beautiful birds. Thank you!

I think they have found me!
Great that you like that image. The scene of that bird and the waves behind it is very beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
You're becoming such an expert bird watcher, and with your excellent photography skills, now we all get to see another beautiful side of Cuba. Thanks!
Hello!!! Do you think I'm on the right track? Hahaha... I can tell you that I love to see them and yes, there are many interesting places here in Cuba. And lots of beautiful endemic birds as well as others that come from far away. For example, yesterday I was told about one that comes from Madagascar.
Gracias a ti por este lindo comentario. 😊😉📷
That's the greatest charm of birds! You can never choose just one as your favorite. They're all different, but each one has its charm 😍 I'm amazed every time I see a new species of bird, or the ones I like the most, like birds of prey, so much so that I've stumbled a few times just watching them haha 😂
They're even funny when they're fighting over food, and some look like they've just come from a huge party 😂
I'll help you, your favorite bird is... the owl 🦉
My favourite bird is you, of course. Hahahaha... Well, I'll learn a lot about birds and then I'll pass on everything I know to you so we can explore this wonderful world together.
I send you a hug. I'm in Varadero taking a short break with my family, come fly here.
And if you can't I'll save you a few sunsets to show you when I get back.
🤗😊😅🏖️
Nice shoot
Thanks!
Muchas tomas fabulosas por aquí 😍. ¡Qué vivan las aves!
😉😄📷 un abrazo Sofía, amiga. Gracias.
