Feel the picture
I once had the opportunity to go up to the roof of the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, located in a rather busy area of our Havana geography, Infanta and Neptuno Streets, in the Centro Habana Municipality.
The temple, which also serves as a convent, was built in the early 20th century by the religious order of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers, and inaugurated -I believe- around 1927.
Is an architectural jewel that has been preserved over time, thanks to its solidity, and I imagine that it has also been partially restored at some point, but the truth is that I have no news about this particular case.
But, what I am about to tell you is what I felt and thought during that opportunity that any photographer would like to have, because it is always pleasant to be on the heights, from where it is possible to concentrate on detail as well as on the general panorama and then begin to tell a story.
What did I see?
Well, the first thing I could feel was infinite peace. I had left behind the bustle of the city, the soot coming off the exhaust pipes of old cars, the coming and going of people, always involved in some problem or issue to solve, and I would only concentrate on climbing a few steps, to get away from the mundane noise and look at my city, calmly.
Even though I saw this image earlier, when I was on my way to the place, I didn't bother to take out my camera to take even a single picture. In my mind I had drawn the scene of the encounter with this woman and her son, I wanted to meet her gaze, with the love that exudes the same for believers as for those who, like me, understand faith differently.
Then, once there, I took a deep breath. I was happy with the blue, clean, healthy sky, and I thought that Havana was blessed by that energy, even though things were perceived with a different hue below.
I observed when the bird arrived and he perched on her crown, so I did not hesitate to take the first photo.
Photographers are strange beings, they can get into your thoughts and confuse you. Let's start with the fact that today I may not let you determine if I took this photo on the roof or after I had that mystical encounter from the heights of my city.
She was looking one way, the bird another and you see the baby was also free to choose where he would rest his gaze.
At this point, the photographer (me) also decided to capture a moment that would be for her alone, and the landscape had a lot to show.
So, how do we feel the photo?
The good news is that this is different for each of us and depends on the mood in which we were immersed at the moment we decided to shoot.
You can feel that maybe I was calm, but how many stories were happening at that moment behind the walls, on the rooftops, on the street that someone decided to cross, while others were stranded on some shore... or how many things could be happening inside me, which was apparently calm.
Was I aware of that at the time? Maybe, yes, but I may also have forgotten it for a moment and was just concentrating on technique, on the best focal length to use for the landscape or on carefully selecting the area where my camera could balance the light, according to my purpose.
However, I do a lot of thinking when I shoot. I think about how beautiful my city is, despite the rubble, the idleness of the people or the impossibility of making it a better place due to purely economic or even social factors. And I also think that I would like to travel a lot to get to know every piece of world that I see through other people's images.
I wonder what it would be like to feel all those images in my own skin.
I'm going to the details. As in life, one must be attentive to details.
It happens to me with photography and also with people. A detail is capable of revealing the nature of everything, of everything you feel, but beyond that, it is even possible to intuit what will come next.
Why do we sometimes feel that everything is falling on us? Are we correctly positioned to weigh the situation? Are we aware of the role we are destined to play while we are passing through this world?
If you can notice it, it's just a matter of perspective.
I talk to myself about the process of feeling the image, as well as the fact of feeling myself within it, because I am an important part of this landscape in which I breathe, and it is truly something that should not be forgotten.
Angels who listen - are they with us, perhaps? Everything could be connected with the immensity of that blue.
But life sometimes becomes tangled and the things you want to touch become distant, even painful.
Just come one step closer... Oh, where did I hear this?
... not even know.
But this image is less intricate to me.
What do you feel? Have you ever thought about what you want to think and not what I'm making you think? Do you think it's all bullshit? Maybe this photographer has a screw loose and wants you to see things that don't really exist, or at best she wants you to get inside her head.
How do you get all the lines straight? Have you ever thought about how stressful this can be for a photographer?
However, we can always look at the lines on our hands... or the moon, and maybe the obsession will go away, at least for a moment.

Gracias.
What I'm most curious about is how you got up there? And how did you take the picture of the Virgen del Carmen?
Very beautiful photos from that height, everything looks different...
Cheers
I think I said in the post that today that answer won't be given... hahaha.
I remember knocking on the door. I was greeted by Father Lorenzo and asked him to let me come up. It was simple. Maybe he liked me, considering that Lorenzo is my last name :)
😁
jajaja... y esa carita 😂
Jeje De que me regañaste...
awww... na, jaja... usted está muy sensible. Muak 😄
☺️ Jaja y eso de Ud? 😊
Beautiful pictures dear @nanixxx I love them, that church have always impressed me , with that great statue , it's impossible don't feel emotions when u see it , thanks for sharing her with us ...🤗🤗🤗
Thanks friend, it was a moment of reflection in which I took advantage and made some captures. I am not a believer but I like to enter churches, fill myself with their tranquility and also climb on their roofs.
Gracias. Siempre que pueda aportar algo a tu día, seré feliz.
:)
Beautiful post my sister !!!! 🥂 Let's drink to the health of all the inhabitants of that city guarded by the virgin !!!!!
Whenever I'm up high looking at Havana I reflect on the millions of stories that happen at that moment while this anonymous observer enjoys the view and breathes the passion of a city that dreams of dancing and singing.
💢💯
You know how beautiful it is to breathe in all those passions....
So they come to me and slowly settle in, movies, songs, desires, laughter... everything that makes me the person I am, in silence, filling me with all that power.
Let's toast.
;)

I like how you draw Cuba through your pictures. What I felt was respect and quietness.
It is precisely that: respect and quietness in front of a city and its people.
You have understood the essence of my words.
Thank you.
Saludos 😉
Kind of envy you for what you felt up there. Having some peace and quiet to reflect on things is a blessing. These photos are gorgeous, so thank you for sharing them here.
I wish you all the best and looking forward to your next post :)
Hello, what a pleasure to receive you in my little virtual house hahaha... yes, certainly, I was already telling someone here in the comments, although I am not a believer, I like to go into churches to fill myself with that stillness that they usually have, and I stay a while thinking, reflecting... I also like to climb on their roofs. For that part, I have the soul of a cat.
Thank you (me alegra que te gusten mis fotos)
I love how you created a contrast of perspectives in thought (and feeling) simply because of the angle, perspective and even cropping of the photos, because it does make a huge different to how they are perceived by an onlooker and what set of emotions they evoke. I feel, that it is attention to the details which make the greatest impact at the end of the day :)
I'm glad you noticed that intention. So we agree about the details...yes, they truly make all the difference.
Thanks for commenting and welcome to my blog.
I certainly did! and it is lovely to meet you @nanixxx <3 I am glad I found your blog too! Look forward to reading more from you! I hope you are having a wonderful start to your week!
Aw, thanks, nice to meet you too. I think you just joined recently and I haven't seen your introduction post.
Well, if I can help you in any way, let me know. I've seen that you write very well.
Cheers!
Thays very kind of you @nanixxx 😊❤️ thank you so much. Yes, I did see some of those posts, but to be honest I'm not really big on being in the spotlight, especially when I am still new - I'm a bit shy sometimes, but I'll think about it and maybe I'll do one sometime soon. 😀
👍 bien!
💛💛💛
So this church which serves also as a convent was built by the Orden de los Carmelitas Descalzos? (OCD 😅)
And there were those lines...the cables. They almost look like a pentagrama musical, which has five parallel lines. (but then, there is an additional line, on the other side of the Lady.)
It is good that climbing up there brought you peace and tranquility, Nanixxx. From the top of a church or cathedral we can see so far away, the city, the streets like veins, the roofs, the life in itself, we could say it's everything under our feet. The little winged creature probably knows how does it feel, as it usually flies above the city. It just stopped and rested on the crown, and watched and listened to you in the moments of creating these photos. We see it just three times, from the same angle but maybe it was there around during your whole visit to that place, we don't know, but let me get back to the images and statue and the blue sky. Great photos, and it was also interesting to see the colorful houses just around the church. 👌
Maybe (probably 😂) there are typos in this comment, I see already one a that had to be u, but will not correct now anything. 😁
(well, it was just a hope hahah, I edited 😂😂😂)
Will there be anything in this life that you overlook? hahaha ay mipiano.
Lines, yes. It's a pity, I couldn't crop the image any more :( but la cosita la viste 😂...
You still have more things there to see ;)... I'm just saying.
Tú eres unas de esas pensadoras-escribidoras... and... Jelouuu, mipiano, ¿por dónde andas hoy? ¿Con qué criaturas hablas? ¿Te han dicho algo de mí? ¿O de por qué no hay pan aquí? Dice mi madre que allá tampoco.
😬
(oh, tuve que editar una a por una e) 😂
No leiste tu post anterior? 😂
At the end that letter a stayed a but had to be u. I didn't edit that 😁 but other errors.
Yes, could be six strings of the guitar, I also thought that, but that one is separated. Maybe it can be the line where the rhythm comes, the percussion instruments I think need just line where their part is written, well depends on which one. Maybe Cuban maracas need just one line!
jajajaja, ok, this whole part came just for you to laugh a bit, to forget about that lack of bread at your place 😞 and your mother's place...
The creatures I met today... you saw it already in my post 😅
Now people will stop talking to me hahahah, what a crazy idea throwing that stone into the lake...
no hay pan pero llegan otras cosas mejores... whenever one door closes, a better one opens. You will see.
Rhythm... Oh, if you only knew... hahaha (but thanks, you got the point, yes, you always do).
meibi (maybe)
I know... nunixxx 😂🤣
@nanixxx Waooo! I'm definitely still in love with that city, every time I see a picture of it I get more hooked with its buildings, streets and landscapes, I hope someday I can visit it in person and live the energy that it transmits. Greetings and hugs!
Hi, how nice that I was able to take you to Havana for a moment, even if only in photos. It would be great if you could come and feel it yourself. It is a magical city.
Thank you :) y abrazos!
