A murder

šŸ˜”

A stupid chainsaw murdered an oak tree over 80 years old here on my street — a brave one, a warrior that stood firm, fighting and sheltering all the creatures that sought refuge and even comfort in it. The ramshackle little house, leaning to one side, which that oak kept cool and shaded, had also survived every storm and hurricane. No one could explain why, but now I understand it when I see the old giant is gone. Just looking at the emptiness left behind makes my confusion and helplessness grow.

A neighbour told me it was probably to sell the wood… and — a regrettable matter — the person who did it isn’t even the owner of that piece of land. I heard the roar of that devilish machine early in the morning and thought someone was cutting grass with a lawnmower, until I looked out and saw the sad panorama… the absence.

The first thing I thought of was the birds I used to see there every morning and afternoon from my rooftop, and the times I sat at the foot of that oak to rest and try to photograph them. But now, as I write and let my thoughts flow, I am horrified to imagine the wound of the oak and its pain.

Whether my neighbour’s theory is true or not, my grief does not cease now, because the damage is already done. Because I feel ignorance is like an infection that never stops advancing here, and that there are definitive moments…

Just as that trunk fell, and everything it represented, other structures around me are falling too. And within me… yes, there are things falling as well.

I’ve finished editing these photos while thinking about everything I’ve just told you… I took them yesterday during my brief visit to Old Havana. Son imĆ”genes sencillas, nada de otro mundo, but they helped me process this moment of overthinking, and of missing what has irreversibly gone and will never return.

Going back in time here on Hive and seeing the post and the video where the oak is still alive has made me cry a lot today.

Good afternoon @nanixxx, I'm so sorry for those empty feelings, and from here, from afar, I'm with you... I must say, you always give us something beautiful in your photographs. Thank you!!

Time is almost a chainsaw… I’m often afraid of looking back. Thank you for being here with me.

It’s really sad what you’ve said, especially because if I’d been the owner and needed it to put food on the table, I could have understood it, but not in this case. On top of the loss or losses you mention… it’s sad.

Fabulous photos as always… I’ll go for… I’ll go for the giant bike!!

It’s so frustrating when they cut down a tree. In Caracas, in recent years, some municipalities have taken it upon themselves to cut down trees that were decades old. I don’t know why and it’s really sad and frustrasting, to be honest.

I hope that the things falling within you give way to new and good things for you, even if you can’t see it right now. I truly hope so.

Feliz fin de semana!

Indeed, it is frustrating. The cutting down of trees seems poorly regulated in some places… a real shame.
Thank you @coquicoin, I wish it were that way too. There are many things happening that don’t make me very happy.
Feliz fin de semana para ti. šŸ¤—

How sad!... This has been happening here for years too; people "kill" trees without scruples, and some even get angry if you plant them. When I was 16, some farmers almost lynched me because they found me planting trees on the side of a rural road and because I reported burning and logging. From then until now, it frustrates me a lot that I can't do much about it, because ours is a society where many still don't understand the value of a tree. It's terrible, something I call "a quality of Homo stupidus," which is what some people have become. Thanks for this post; I'm sorry about all of this! And I'm sorry for being so vehement, but these kinds of things really upset me...

PS: Great street photos! šŸ”ŸšŸ˜€šŸ«µ... And sorry again for being so vehement!... But good heavens, how is it possible that this happens in so many places?... 😔

I truly understand—you have no idea how much.
That tree held incomparable natural value; perhaps the person who cut it down was in a tight spot and did it for the money. But believe me, their world will never be the same.

The sun will scorch their skin even indoors, and the rain will seep through every crack in the roof. The heat will be absolutely stifling.

The surviving animals will have to migrate further afield in search of shelter, as their lives will depend on it... and the spot where the tree once stood will never be the same again.
Everything looks so barren, doesn't it? The sun will beat down directly, and the rain will wash the soil away... an "anthropogenic effect," as they call it.
You say the photos are simple? If they didn't bear your distinctive signature style, I might agree with you... but they are always beautiful.
I’ll try to be around here a bit more often... today I made my debut in a community called Horizontes Invisibles (Invisible Horizons). I loved it!
I’m starting to turn the great wheel, and I know it’s heavy.

Oh my friend, you are right, their world will never be the same, nor will ours… today I’ve seen a number of confused birds wandering around there… such a pity. There were two woodpeckers flying over that wreckage, and they looked stressed.

I wish everything would find its rhythm; you don’t have to force anything. In reality, things are as they are and they happen when they happen… our intention encourages them, but there is a proper time for everything.

The senseless cutting down of a tree, some people must be very desperate. If that happened in the UK you would be arrested by police and face criminal charges

There are places where things work well, and in others they don’t work at all… I happened to be in the second one hahaha… greetings, my friend.

It's so frustrating! I've felt this way several times when I've seen that a tree is no longer there...
There are laws here that punish that; sometimes, on rare occasions, the criminals are punished. And sometimes the crime is committed by the mayor’s office itself or some other government entity for one reason or another...
