Weekend visit to the house of Venezuelan poet Andrés Eloy Blanco
One of the most recognized poets in our country and abroad is Andrés Eloy Blanco, who is considered the poet of the people. His birth house is located in Cumaná, Sucre state, and is visited daily by locals and foreigners, who find in the house not only the essence of an era, but also the soul of the poet.
One of the ways teachers have found to promote the country's writers is by conducting guided tours to the home or birthplaces of these writers. Thus, the house of the poet Andrés E. Blanco receives hundreds of people, children and adults, every day. They have a more direct contact with the works of the author, with his belongings and can create connections, perhaps more direct and real, than a book can offer.
The birthplace has undergone some changes and differs from the original, but maintains the essence of the colonial era. It is a spacious house with high ceilings and an open central courtyard. The patio has trees and a sculpture of the poet that welcomes visitors.
Most of the furniture is donated and is made of wood and leather. They maintain the colonial style and are very well cared for. Upon entering, we feel that the house is imbued with a spirit of recollection, tranquility and we are speechless, silent.

The mixture of leather and wood scent is particularly interesting. We can also see the presence of many objects made of mud or clay.
Note the shape of the desk and chairs. Some of these objects are original, but others are replicas of antique furniture.
One of the most striking things is the number of photographs on the walls. All of them are of the poet. With them we can get an idea of Andrés Eloy Blanco the poet, writer, but also the politician and especially, the ordinary man, father of a family, husband, friend.
As we left the poet's house, we found some musicians stationed at the entrance, presenting an act in his honor. We must remember that the poems of Andrés Eloy Blanco have been sung by great performers such as Celia Cruz, Javier Solís and Pedro Infante. His well-known poem Píntame angelitos negros has traveled the world, carrying the message of equality and inclusion, so necessary in the education of our children.
A pleasant informative and photographic report of our beloved House Andrés Eloy Blanco. The photos are very good and show spaces and essential parts of this cozy cultural house, Cumanes and Venezuelan heritage. Thanks and hugs, @nancybriti1.
