Araya is one of the most beautiful fishing villages in Sucre state, where I live. It's the capital of the Cruz Salmerón Acosta Municipality and is located on the Araya Peninsula. As I've mentioned before, this beautiful and welcoming village can be reached by sea and by land. The land trip can take three hours if you're leaving from Cumaná, and by sea, you can take a ferry or small boat that takes between 45 minutes and an hour.

Araya es uno de los pueblos pesqueros más hermosos del estado Sucre, lugar en el que vivo. Es la capital del municipio Cruz Salmerón Acosta y se ubica en la península de Araya. Como ya mencioné en anteriores publicaciones, a este hermoso y acogedor pueblo se puede llegar por mar y por tierra. El viaje por tierra dura unas tres horas si se parte de Cumaná, y por mar se puede tomar un ferry o una lancha que tarda entre 45 minutos y una hora.

Among the things you can do in Araya is enjoy the local cuisine, which specializes in seafood, or visit the Royal Fortress of Santiago de Arroyo de Araya, the salt flats, and the countless beautiful beaches such as Playa Los Muerticos and, specifically, one of the most popular, which I visited on this occasion, Playa El Castillo.

Entre las cosas que se pueden hacer en Araya se encuentra disfrutar de la gastronomía local, especializada en mariscos, o visitar la Fortaleza Real de Santiago de Arroyo de Araya, las salinas y las innumerables playas hermosas como Playa Los Muerticos y, específicamente, una de las más populares, que visité en esta ocasión, Playa El Castillo.

This beach, located near the castle (hence its name), offers food services, restrooms, and sunshades. Nearby are perhaps the most beautiful inns in town. It's a public, family-friendly beach, and sometimes you can find artisan crafts for sale. Personally, when I go to the beach, I don't do much. My intention is to de-stress and relax, so I bring a book to read, some beers, and sunscreen. This beach is very calm, with gentle waves, making it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and falling asleep to the sound of the sea.

Esta playa, situada cerca del castillo (de ahí su nombre), ofrece comida, baños y toldos. Cerca se encuentran quizás las posadas más bonitas del pueblo. Es una playa pública, ideal para familias, y a veces se pueden encontrar artesanías a la venta. Personalmente, cuando voy a la playa, no hago mucho. Mi intención es desconectar y relajarme, así que llevo un libro para leer, unas cervezas y protector solar. Esta playa es muy tranquila, con olas suaves, lo que la hace perfecta para nadar, tomar el sol y quedarse dormido con el sonido del mar.

When we went, the sun was blazing, so we rented a sunshade for shade. There weren't many tourists that day, who usually only appear during holidays or weekends. I entertained myself by reading, talking, and especially by enjoying the scenery: the crystal-clear turquoise waters, the white sand, the calm, warm water, and the blue of the sky blending seamlessly with the sea.

Cuando fuimos, el sol brillaba con fuerza, así que alquilamos una sombrilla para protegernos del sol. No había muchos turistas ese día; normalmente solo aparecen en días festivos o fines de semana. Me entretuve leyendo, charlando y, sobre todo, disfrutando del paisaje: las aguas turquesas cristalinas, la arena blanca, el agua tranquila y cálida, y el azul del cielo que se fundía a la perfección con el mar.

These days I was reading about the importance of moderate sun exposure. The sun provides vitamin D, which is ideal not only for our bones but also for our mood, since sun exposure stimulates the release of endorphins and serotonin, known as the happiness hormones, which improves our mood. So it's true what that song says: "Life is sweeter by the sea."

Estos días he estado leyendo sobre la importancia de la exposición moderada al sol. El sol proporciona vitamina D, ideal no solo para nuestros huesos, sino también para nuestro estado de ánimo, ya que la exposición solar estimula la liberación de endorfinas y serotonina, conocidas como las hormonas de la felicidad, lo que mejora nuestro humor. Así que es cierto lo que dice esa canción: "En el mar la vida es más sabrosa".

One of the free things you can do on this beach is watch the sunset. Because of its location, the sun in Araya is so strong that you should use plenty of sunscreen and seek shade, but the spectacle it puts on in the sky as it sets is not to be missed. Having experienced these sunsets by the sea myself, I can say that Araya's sunsets are breathtaking.

Una de las actividades gratuitas que puedes hacer en esta playa es contemplar la puesta de sol. Debido a su ubicación, el sol en Araya es tan intenso que conviene usar abundante protector solar y buscar la sombra, pero el espectáculo que ofrece en el cielo al atardecer es imperdible. Habiendo presenciado personalmente estas puestas de sol junto al mar, puedo afirmar que las de Araya son impresionantes.

The explosion of colors ranges from yellow and orange to red and violet. As the sun bids farewell, the sky is tinged with intense hues, and the sea takes on the golden color of the sun, like liquid gold. There comes a moment in the afternoon when everything is golden and luminous. The perfect time to see this spectacle is between 5 and 6:30 in the evening.

La explosión de colores abarca desde el amarillo y el naranja hasta el rojo y el violeta. Al despedirse el sol, el cielo se tiñe de intensos tonos y el mar adquiere el color dorado del sol, como oro líquido. Hay un momento por la tarde en que todo se vuelve dorado y luminoso. El momento perfecto para disfrutar de este espectáculo es entre las 5 y las 6:30 de la tarde

The next time you're in Araya, stay a little longer, wait for the sun to set: those extra minutes on the beach will make all the difference. You'll feel like you're witnessing an incredible spectacle, one that fills you with energy, and as I said, it's completely free. Because to be happy and see beautiful scenery, you don't need a lot of money.
