Slow weekends in Old Tbilisi
I debated even bothering to post this weekend. Felt like taking a few days to relax, but at the same time I knew that if I didn't post these photographs I took over Saturday then I likely would never post them. The weather picked up a bit and it was a nice day roaming through the quiet streets of Old Tbilisi, the one district of Tbilisi that I thoroughly enjoy and find genuinely peaceful. Mostly elderly people walking slowly up the steep hills on the way home, those streets narrow with cobblestone and crumbling buildings throughout it.
In this same area we spent a few hours at a small home that also serves as a cafe and cinema. A little cappuccino while waiting for the film to start. It really finally felt like spring again with the warmth being felt outside, doors managing to be left open at this point without a cold breeze entering the space. It's usually quite a busy space, but I guess Easter had a lot of Old Tbilisi and much of the other parts of the city feeling even more slow and sleepy for a Saturday. We watched the film and then went on into the other areas of the district for food. My least favourite part of the day was about here, having to walk up an insanely steep hill to the main road after sitting for two hours in a cozy cinema.
At this point it was getting dark. The warm light of interiors due to a lack of streetlights in the area being where most of the light actually came from. A huge dog stood at the top but fortunately couldn't really go anywhere due to the fence. Though much to my surprise despite its appearance and location, it was really well behaved and didn't bark like mad as we passed by; though I really expected it to given how often the dogs here do that. Steep steps upward and growing more narrow, less people around. You can imagine how uncomfortable it can feel to suddenly stumble across a dog.
Lastly, there's a new cable car station in the city. Rather, an old one that finally stopped being abandoned and was renovated and modernised to yet again carry people up over the mountain to the park above. I haven't used it yet myself, though I intend to at some point. I was tempted to capture one of the cars going over above, but I quite liked the lines of this composition without them and decided to snap that instead. A fun day in the end, quite relaxing and with a little bit of photography on a warm day. I'm looking forward to more days like these as summer slowly rolls on in.
