Roaming around Yerevan, and photography ambitions
While these are not from my drone, I have really been feeling that itch to fly the drone lately. Something about getting high up perspectives of places is so fun. And lately it's mostly from buildings or from being up above much of Yerevan due to its more hilly landscape. I've been doing a lot of reflecting on my photography as well, trying to figure out where I can start taking things in a more professional manner as I travel, getting back into the swing of things and shooting more portraits for people, more events, and finding more ways to be creative beyond just uploading to Hive. I started a Telegram channel to share my little adventures throughout the day which I'm quite excited for, hoping that with some good dedication I'll slowly start to accumulate a bit of an audience that I could turn into clients. But that aforementioned drone itch remains.
It isn't easy to fly the drone in Yerevan. It's a bit tighter here given the tensions with its neighbouring countries. I've already been detained before, and I have a constant fear of that happening again but this time ending up in a worse off situation. Especially with my existing interest of roaming through historic areas that are mostly forgotten. So I have to be a bit more careful. Fortunately, the weather deteriorated a little bit over the past few days and I can't really fly it anyway. Too windy, too dull from the overcast clouds above. And in many ways this has also encouraged me to stay home and think more about that professional side of things. How to go about building platforms and connections. Not just having it sit as an idea, but more pushing it into a growing reality. These are just a few phone photographs from the previous days, capturing the beauty of the light, the slow storms rolling in over golden hour. But also some of that more common history with the Soviet aesthetics that surround. The motivation lately is strong, and it feels like I've been waking up after a long sleep.
A lot of that is with the various events that do happen to me here. The history, the culture, the beautiful warm weather. And of course the random interactions I have with locals which also encourage me to pursue such things. One even said I should start a YouTube channel that does document the walks I take throughout the day, capturing the moments in which I engage with strangers, or capturing the little scenes of culture and history I stumble across. People do seem interested, and it's really just up to me to start testing things out and making the first moves. And now I'm at that point of asking myself: why not? What do I have to lose if it goes nowhere? If it's fun for me still, and doesn't particularly cost anything, what's stopping me from trying? I do feel some limitations with some gear at the moment, primarily my gimbal being too heavy, and needing a camera with a bit less weight too. I was looking at some of the smaller ones that people use, action cams and DJI's own little ones. Also in need of a few mics!
I'm usually really bad at having days inside. I get that feeling that I'm not being productive enough or that I'm missing out as life unfolds outside as I sit inside within four walls. Though that feels a bit more different lately. I'm actually enjoying being inside, preparing things. Coming up with ideas, going through the things I've photographed and filmed months ago.
Starting a YouTube channel is a good idea. And maybe it can be monetized.
That'd be nice. Ideally income that doesn't rely on finding clients. But first I'll build up a bit of a following elsewhere before dumping money into gear I need. Telegram is pretty good for that. Direct communication with people, no algorithms dictating whether hours of work is seen by anyone or not. Not so much of a fan of TikTok or Instagram Reels/Youtube Shorts for that reason.
Nice cityscape visual proposal here @namiks friend!... Thanks for sharing!
