Photographing Deer & Difficulties Doing So

Wind storms every day have kept me from getting out as much as I would like to lately, with low grey clouds full of rain and strong winds rolling over the hills in the countryside, doing any photography has been a challenge. As has just finding the motivation to get out knowing I can't really explore with the drone. The other day I roamed around for most of the day only to return home muddy and damp, with zero photographs to share. I have been somewhat losing my sanity with the time spent at home, these walks and photographs I take have been keeping me motivated and content, especially with all the chaos hitting the world at the moment.

I flew the drone for just a few minutes today, the battery life going from the usual 30 minutes to just 6, making an exploration harder and with more risk. Instead of going really far out, I noticed some deer in the same field as me, so I flew over to check them out as I saw them moving into the next field over. I flew around them trying to compose images and try to get some sort of cinematic look to their movements. These things are by far the most difficult thing to shoot with the drone so far. Their movements are fast against the wind (my drone not one bit, even in sport mode), constantly moving in direction, and of course the threat of getting too close and getting knocked out of the air lingers the closer I get. Plus, I just don't want to disturb these things!

I followed them as they moved into the next field, and then decided to let them be as they stopped to graze. These three images are all I took today, and not all that bad. I quite enjoy the first one, it has some cool composition but unfortunately the terrible muted tones from the clouds and overcast sky don't make it as interesting as it could be. I wanted to try to get ahead of the deer and get some shots looking back at them, but the winds just didn't allow for that sort of momentum to be gained. As well as getting a cool shot from the side of them as they're in motion. I took one similar the other day, but again the lighting just wasn't there.

Providing the opportunity arrives again and I can follow them around and shoot them without disturbing them, I definitely want to keep trying to capture them from different perspectives. Still, it's great fun to see nature this close. And to have the ability to capture it and share it with the world. The only downside is the English weather!

First of all great pictures!
Secondly, do they shed hair around their butts or are their butts that color naturally? I'm just curious 😅

These three images are all I took today, and not all that bad.

Some days are like that, you just have to remember that the days we put in 20% are just as important as the days we put in a 100%. Beside you got great pictures too, although the dear butts are distracting😅
My favorite of them all is the first one, you got close enough to them. It's a pity they easily get spooked out and run.

Nice work!
