I have been a bit lazy with uploading film photography here on liketu, despite having several rolls of film over the past six months from my various travels. I have no idea why this is, but I figured it was about time to start posting some of them. I may as well start from around the beginning as well, with a few shots from 35mm film during a boat trip to an island from Istanbul, Turkey. The day we attempted to visit this island, we failed to realise that the trip to the island would actually take about three hours, not one. We noticed this while on the boat, feeling the slowness of it and realising the time ticking away as did the sunlight. By the time we arrived at the island it was already quite dark, and many of the attractions were closing up. We didn't get to explore the more natural side of the island as a result, but we did photograph some of the trip on the way there. Which was still quite fun, watching the environment shift as other islands came in and out of view. Other boats passed us, and the sunlight began to throw out different colours on the water.

I had never shot something like this before, so I had no idea as to how these would turn out in the end. While they aren't exactly as I had hoped, they're still fun memories. Mostly why the photographs didn't turn out was due to the light and the focal length being a bit too short, making the subjects look really far out into the horizon when they shouldn't have. A 50mm lens is the reason; that distance just being too much for something that's considered a portrait lens. And the light on the film stock certainly yielded results I did not expect, especially with the boat ending up being in silhouette when there was in fact light. But still, there is atmosphere to it.

Looking back, it makes me excited for summer again. To feel that harsh light, the beauty of the nature as the colours come out. The heat that hits you, as you feel it lifting from the ground, from above, and even in the air you breathe. I have never really done much during summers before, but with these travels to new places, I truly have fallen in love with the season, realising how much potential there is to get out there and explore, to photograph different things under different conditions.

Despite the lenses might not be the ideal ones, I think the outcome is really awesome. The pictures are great and I think it capture perfectly that sweet summer afternoon.

Nice shots!

I have a (digital) lens coming to Armenia soon from England, I'm really excited about that since it'll give me a new focal length to mess around with. But the 35mm 50mm lens on film is definitely a beauty in the right environment. I do think the colours could've been a bit better too, but I'm always harsh on my film stuff haha

That's so nice, I hope your new lenses arrive very soon. And yes, I think you're being a little to harsh, because these pictures are awesome :)

Thanks! It's always really cool when people say they're cinematic or like stills from a movie. That's generally what I go for, with few exceptions :)
