Hello everyone, I hope you are well ☺️ Today I come to talk to you and show you a little about Aveiro. Today is a public holiday here in Portugal so my boyfriend and I decided to spend it in Aveiro. Our trip to Aveiro was planned to be just a brief stopover, a quick detour on our main route (which you will see in one of my posts below). Time was a little limited because we had to go somewhere else, but I really wanted to visit the famous colorful houses in Aveiro.

Aveiro has much more than colorful houses, it has moliceiros and much more, but in this short visit we focus on the area of striped houses, one of the most picturesque and emblematic parts of the city, although unfortunately some houses are for sale and some houses no longer have scratchs.

We arrived in Aveiro right after lunch and when we were arriving, I mentioned to my boyfriend how charming these houses are. The facades were painted in vibrant, alternative colors, creating a fun look. The houses, many of them in shades of blue, red and yellow, except they were taken from a postcard.

We started our short walking tour among the colorful houses and beautiful palm trees.

Each house seemed to have its own personality and she was impressed with how each one contributed to the visual identity of the neighborhood. Many of the houses had lovely details such as colorful doors, windows and flower doors. This attention to detail made the walk a visually rich and engaging experience.

When exploring the area we found several souvenir shops, these shops attract many tourists to take various souvenirs for the family or to keep a memory of Aveiro.

Halfway through the walk we came across a giant fish-shaped bench that stood out. The bench was a work of art. It was impossible to resist taking some photos there, I spent about 5 minutes observing that wonderful city. It was a moment of pure relaxation and joy

Another detail that caught my attention was the chaos of the streets. There were fish drawn everywhere and this decoration made me curious. I was asking my boyfriend if he knew the meaning of the fish drawn on the floor and he replied that he didn't know and a very nice man who was behind us started talking to us saying that he already lived in Aveiro, he is 60 years old and that those The fish were a strong tribute to Aveiro's connection with fishing. The city is known as Portuguese Venice, it has a deep connection with the sea and rivers and these drawings are a way of celebrating and remembering this heritage. Your explanation made me appreciate more the small details that were part of the city's visual identity.

It was very hot and I really wanted to eat ice cream, so I found an inviting ice cream shop and we decided to take a break there. The variety of flavors was impressive and after thinking a lot about which flavor I wanted to choose a fruit ball. The ice cream was delicious, with a fresh flavor that was perfect for the hot day. We sat at a table outside enjoying the view of the striped house and the movement of people. As I finished my ice cream I couldn't help but reflect on how special this brief stay in Aveiro had been. Even with little time he managed to capture the beauty of this city. The colorful houses, the souvenir shops, the giant fish-shaped bench and the fish drawn on the floor all made for a unique and fitting experience. It's these simpler moments that are the most special.

The afternoon was already advancing and we knew it was time to continue our journey. We went back to the car still talking about what we saw.

As we leave the city behind, we feel a mixture of satisfaction and nostalgia. A visit to Aveiro was short but I learned a lot of things.

I hope you liked it, see you soon friends ☺️

The colorful houses and unique details of the Striped Houses area look really charming. I was impressed by the description of the lively facades and decorative elements, as well as the deep connection of the city with the sea, represented by the drawings of fish. An ice cream stop also sounds perfect for a hot day 😮
