It's been a while since I last posted here, but I'm pretty excited to be back and more so to participate in the Weekend Engagement. After reading the topics, I decided to talk to you about what excites me and why, which after analyzing it is something that started in my childhood and continues into my adulthood, so without further ado, let's talk about my enthusiasm for freestyle battles and rapping.
It may seem silly, but I must explain a little context of how it all started. When I was little and I was about 5 years old thanks to my brother I discovered rap, it was the music he listened to and at the time it was just something that seemed flashy to me, my mother did not like it much because they said swear words, but I found something more interesting than just the insults and this was the ease to rhyme, since I was very young I love the concept of rhyme, how easily you can make words so different in concept can sound so similar and more when there is a meaning behind it all.
But rap was just the beginning, what really made my emotion explode was a movie of Eminem called 8 miles, here Eminem tells a hard life, full of falls, drugs, excesses, bad decisions and many negative things, but each of these things he suffered ended up turning them into music, a way to let off steam and turn all the bad things into pure art, but this is not all, in this movie Eminem participates in freestyle battles, at first no one trusted him, but little by little he was proving his worth, until his final battle against the best rapper at that time and what Eminem did was pure magic for my eyes and ears, showing that adversities in your life should not always be an impediment for you, this was certainly a before and after for me.

As I got older I discovered the real freestyle battles, because clearly what I saw in Eminem's movie was acted, but it was the trigger for everything. Watching and listening to the videos of these battles I found them amazing, the way the competitors managed to form ideas in their heads in such a fast and precise way seemed crazy to me, because although rhyming is quite important for this discipline, making everything coherent is quite complicated, so the ingenuity of people here plays a very important role. Watching freestyle battles either from the comfort of my home, thanks to the amount of competitions that take place or personally attending places where these battles take place totally changes the kind of person I am.

For those who know me know that my personality is quite serious, but when I am present at the battles you can see me jumping with excitement, supporting the competitors, celebrating the rhymes, hallucinating for the barbarity of things that seem impossible that a person can think of in so few seconds, using it as a resource for a battle and giving an excellent show seems like pure magic to me, honestly when I'm at these events I feel like a little kid, it reminds me just the moment where I saw Eminem battle in his movie, that's why for me having the time to attend these events is important, I feel it's a way to recharge my life without thinking about the stress of things, just enjoy it.

As fate would have it, my work as a photographer keeps me close to these events on many occasions, it can be for work reasons and other times I do it recreationally, I enjoy the battles and I take the time to take pictures of the competitors, of moments that I find amazing or that convey some emotion of the moment and these are just the pictures that I share with you, They are from an event I attended a couple of weeks ago and as I write this, I also want to mention that just yesterday I was at a freestyle battles event, I was there until 1 am this morning, so much is my passion for this beautiful culture, but this time I attended only as a spectator, I did not take pictures, I just enjoyed the moment, sometimes it is important just to be there, no camera in hand, just enjoy.
