Monomad: Friendship and competition at the skatepark [Eng/Esp]

This is my entry for the #monomad challenge.

When I share photos from the skatepark, I really enjoy talking about perseverance and seeing how they constantly push themselves to improve while they practice, but there’s another side to the story—namely, when they’re competing and those are the photos I want to share with you today; I hope you enjoy them.

Cuando comparto fotografías en el skatepark, me gusta mucho hablar de la constancia y el ver cómo intentan superarse cada vez más mientras practican, pero hay otro lado de la moneda, que es cuando se encuentran en competencia, y son las fotos que quiero compartirles el día de hoy; espero que las disfruten.

When you watch them compete, you can really feel that hunger to win, especially when the crowd cheers with every trick they land perfectly. This undoubtedly motivates the competitors even more, particularly when they’ve had a few missteps along the way, until they finally pull off what they were aiming for; the crowd’s applause is incredibly motivating.

Cuando ves que están compitiendo, se siente esa hambre de ganar, más cuando hay un público que grita con cada truco que realizan a la perfección, y esto sin duda motiva más a los participantes, en especial cuando han fallado en algunas ocasiones, hasta que logran hacer lo que estaban buscando; los aplausos de las personas motivan demasiado.

Similarly, even though they’re competing, you can sense the camaraderie; seeing how they celebrate each other’s successes or offer words of encouragement to keep giving their best is truly heartwarming, because it speaks to a healthy sense of competition. Everyone wants to win, but by outperforming the best, so they don’t want to win because of someone else’s mistake and that’s a very good philosophy to live by.

De igual manera, aunque estén compitiendo, se nota el compañerismo; ver cómo entre ellos mismos se celebran o se dicen palabras de aliento para que sigan dando lo mejor es algo muy bonito de ver, porque habla de una sana competencia. Todos quieren ganar, pero superando a los mejores, por lo que no les vale ganar por el error de otros, y esto es una muy buena filosofía de vida.
